Did you know that today was Texas Independence Day?
Texas Independence Day is a legal holiday in the State of Texas that celebrates the adoption of the state’s independence declaration, adopted on March 2nd, 1836. This event marked Texas independent from Mexico. Sixty delegates from all parts of Texas signed the declaration, which parallels the 1776 Declaration of Independence of the United States.
The Republic of Texas was later annexed to the United States by joint resolution of the US Congress 9 years later. The US Congress then admitted Texas as a constituent state of the Union on December 29, 1845. But today is recognized for the creation of the Republic of Texas, existing for almost a decade as a sovereign nation and infusing a Texas nationalism since.
