Feng Shui in Holbrook Long Island New York: The Care and "Feeding" of the Mouth of Chi

Feng Shui in Holbrook Long Island NY --  The Care and “Feeding” of The Mouth of Chi

In Feng Shui by now many of us realize the importance of The Front Door.  Often called “The Mouth of Chi” it is the one place that truly allows all the new, fresh Energy to flow into our Space every day.

This lovely home is located in Suffolk County Long Island New York in the lovely town of Holbrook.  Whether you’re looking at Curb Appeal in Home Staging or seeing this Holbrook Long Island Home through “Feng Shui Eyes” you can see a lot of thought and good Energy has gone into making The Front Door and the exterior created to entice good Energy to enter easily.

Straight pathways leading directly to the home can ‘rush’ the Energy in a bit too quickly.  Energy flows through a space, inside or out, and here they have not addressed just a straight path into their home.

Although the Meaning of the Red Door is different for many, in Feng Shui RED is the Auspicious Color….it ATTRACTS good Energy.  Another note of this Feng Shui Exterior in Holbrook Long Island Home is that when we remember the ‘Form’ School of Feng Shui, we know that the Element of Water helps to grace Energy into a Space.

In Feng Shui we also don’t like sharp edges.  They can cause what Feng Shui Consultants call ‘cutting chi’ or ‘cutting sha’ Energy.  Great care has been taken to keep the outdoor Round.  Two Ducks?  This family is addressing Partnerships……

And although difficult to see, many New York Feng Shui Consultants advise to put the word “Welcome” on the Front Door to Welcome in the Energy.

Hi Carole,

Very interesting.  Now I know why I have always liked RED doors on houses and winding paths or walkways!

This is a DUMB question, but I am serious.  Do today's very "tight", well insulated homes IMPEDE the flow of energy into a home?  I have read of cases where some people have become ill because the house was too "tight" on air infiltration and some of the toxins in the construction materials can build up in the home.  Any thoughts from a Feng Shui perspective?

By the way, does that make it OK to put a pair of PINK flamingoes out in my front yard?  ^_~

Hi Carole,

Do you consider the Front-Door-As-Designed to be the Mouth of Chi; or the Door-That-Everybody-Uses?

For example, at my house, the real front door faces the street; but the only people who try to knock on it are door-to-door salespeople.

Everyone who knows me comes to the side door; I use the side door; it is placed near the front corner of the house, off the driveway; and it just seems the more natural way to enter the house.  (It enters into a small den.)

Thanks, as always, for sharing so much information and insight!

Carole, There is so much to feng shui, that I don't really know or understand. You mentioned "peace plants" in my office to absorb bad energy. ?? I will assume that you are talking about spathiphillum or spath?

I am really interested in this as I have read and heard quite a bit about this. Would love to "pick your brain" on this. Would it be okay to call you sometime when you are not busy with a client?

Carole I think the front door says a lot about a home and the person living in it. Of course I want mine to look good and be inviting to those arriving.

Carole,

The front door and entrance area of this house looks very inviting...

what do you think of having one of those lamp posts near the front door (the kind with three lamps on it that stands off on it's own a bit near the brick walkway)?

I think that if I live to 100, I'll never know all the ins and outs of Feng Shui. But reading your posts has definitely increased my awareness and knowledge of its principles.

Sally and David, Thank you, I'm glad you find this interesting information.  We think if Curb Appeal in selling a home and there are many Feng Shui Principles we do as well...they work!

Bruce, I love the pink flamingos and you've good a good question about homes breathing.....I think we ALL need air and when they're locked so tightly, they don't allow Energy to flow.  That's one of the reasons to think of building and "Going Green" which in German is called the Study of Bio Biology.

Gita, Thank you...it was really lovely and I wished the day were a bit brighter.

Cheryl, The Front Door in Feng Shui is usally located in the front...some of the homes here only have side doors.  If I had both and it was not inconvient to use the door in Front of the Home, that is the Mouth of Chi.  At least open the door if you don't use it often or try to get into the habit of using it at least on weekends...It's an important area to address.

Michael, I don't know the exact name although I will try to find it for you.  We just call them Peace Lilies which bloom in the Spring and Summer with long white flowers....They are the only plants that can help deflect electro magnetic energy of which you  are surrounded with.  You are more than welcome to call anytime!

Bill, We always want Curb Appeal....in Feng Shui we also have specific reasons for things to attract those buyers IN :)

Jo, I think they're lovely to light up the Entrance as long as they're not in front of the Entrance!  If you have one off center you are lighting up the path at night...

Craig, You're not alone....I sometimes feel if I live to be 100 I will never learn it all either.  There are so many levels to Feng Shui and it's probably why I love it so much!

Debi, Good, I'm glad.  There is so much to learn and it's really a never ending process.

Jane, I absolutely believe it was....or by someone who had a wonderful understanding of Feng Shui and got it right!

janeAnne, It's close enough and would be beatiful.    I would also try to add either a welcome wreath or something over the door that actually spells out Welcome.

From the desk of David Dee,

Carole, nice points and suggestions on the importance of the front door. For this reason, many homeowners have adapted to implement double doors as it create an 'open-ness' which is conducive for better energy flow into the house. Even homes with single door with side panels on each side are considered to be a great option and less expensive one as well.

The path leading to the house is relatively important as well. You've pointed out that "straight pathways leading directly to the home can ‘rush’ the Energy in a bit too quickly." That's an excellent point. Too much energy flow directly into the house can be an impediment. To combat this, many homeowners have constructed a little winding path towards the house. This creates a balance of energy flow and thereby lessen the negative impact of the 'forced energy'. The equalization of energy created from this source is great for the house. Thanks for the great tips! :D
