Waterfront Living in Sturbridge, MA - Cedar Pond/ Cedar Lake
STURBRIDGE, MA - The town of Sturbridge, MA, has several small lakes and ponds that provide wonderful opportunities for waterfront living and vacation homes. In this series, I'll introduce you to the waterfront opportunities in the area and discuss some of the amenities of each lake.
Cedar Lake - Sturbridge, MA
CEDAR POND/CEDAR LAKE WATERFRONT LIVING
Cedar Pond (also known as Cedar Lake) is located in the central part of Sturbridge, just north of Main Street (Route 20). The homes on Cedar Pond are varied. You'll find small seasonal summer cottages (or camps, as we say here in New England) as well as grand year-round waterfront estates.
Pictured left is a quintessential A-frame cottage. This style of house typically has the main living area on the first level, with bedrooms set under the cozy roofline on the second level. The steep roofline works well in northern climates where snowfall can be heavy.
Below is a Contemporary-style home with cathedral ceilings and skylights, a popular choice for waterfront living.
Occasionally, waterfront lots will become available on Cedar Pond. Currently there is a 1.5 acre lot available for $230,000. Many of the properties on Cedar Pond have the ability to tie in to the town's water and sewer system, a wonderful alternative to private septic and well.
Cedar Pond is host to the town's public beach, where swimming is permitted at your own risk. The lake is a full recreational lake, and you will find it bustling with boaters and water skiers in the summer. The town runs a summer camp for kids at the Cedar Lake Recreation Center. Residents on on Cedar Lake can become members of the Cedar Lake Association.
Burgess Elementary School is located on the lake, and the Sturbridge Host Hotel also is sited along Cedar Pond. Enjoy waterfront dining and dancing in the summer at the Oxhead Tavern's outdoor patio.
