Kasey Kahne, driver of the #9 Richard Petty Motorsports Budweiser Ford, is being reported to have signed to drive the Hendricks Motorsports #5 Chevrolet in 2012 when the current driver, Mark Martin's contract expires.
Kahne being added to HMS's driver stable of Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr, makes that team even MORE bankable for sponsors. Kahne is an ad man's DREAM having done very successful Allstate and Discount Tire ads as well as currently driving for Budweiser which switched to his #9 team when Dale Earnhardt Jr. gave up the DEI #8.
Kane does not have a CUP "ride" for 2011; however, it is expected that he may drive a Stewart-Hass third car since SHR gets their tech support and engines from HMS.
That is certainly some interesting news, and a very bankable name to add to the Hendrick team.
I just want to see Mark win a championship before he retires. He is one of the classiest drivers out there right now.
Jim * I agree * I thought Mark would win last year....very close. Rick Hendrick has a very GOOD LOOKING stable of drivers!!!
Mark Martin is such a class act, I will be sorry to see him retire. We can only hope that the younger drivers learn something from him before he goes.
It will be a "Dream Team" at Hendrick Motorsports !!! Wonder if he'll keep the BUD sponsership or if JR. might resnag it ?????
Michael * BUD may well go with Kasey. There is talk that Mark Martin will go to Stewart-Hass in 2011 and Kasey will drive for HMS next year as Mark wants to drive longer than 1 more year and SH has sponsorship
