Schweitzer Has Record Snow Two Years in a Row! Another record ski season for 2009, even with the difficult economy, and 2010 beat last year.

What a great season Schweitzer had in 2009, but in news reported by the Bonner County Daily Bee April 18, 2010, this year was even better with a 7.5% increase in visits. 217,000 skier visits marked the 2009-10 season even though only 177 inches fell on the mountain. Part of that can be attributed to proper grooming, and the snow making capabilities that new, state-of-the-art equipment provided. Read more below.

Weather prognosticators predicted a warmer winter for our region, due much in part to el nino, (follow this link for the NOAA predictions) as well as lower precipitation. All of their predictions came true. For those that live here, this is news presented the proverbial double-edged sword. We welcome things being a bit warmer with less snow. The previous two years had record flakes dumped on us for very long winter seasons. The other side of the coin is Schweitzer needs the snow to make it the premier resort it has become. Because of our big lake, many think that our top tourist season is summer, but winter and snow sports is the #1 draw.

Schweitzer Mountain as a resort planning for just this kind of year has made great progress in the snow making system that began installation last year. It is now fully functional, and the resort is no longer completely relying on mother nature to provide snow for its runs. (Read this story on Schweitzer's snow making system)

So, we are thankful we had another classic, even epic ski season.
