DMAAR Breakfast enjoys big turn out for MLS committee Q&A

One thing is certain about REALTORS, they enjoy an opportunity to get together over a meal and talk about all things real estate. The Des Moines Area Association of REALTORS breakfast today gave Des Moines area real estate agents just such an opportunity this morning at it's monthly breakfast at the Hilton Garden in Johnston.

The weather cooperated by being beautifully sunny and cool and turn out for the event was about 150 to hear the MLS Board answer attendees questions about MLS policies and procedures. On hand were the full Board made of of Carolyn Helmlinger or Coldwell Banker, Don Godwin of Remax Real Estate Group, Jake Stanton of First Realty Prudential, Doug Burnett of Burnett Realty and Lynn Shafer of Central Iowa Appraisers. Moderators were Sheena Cochran-Foster and Robin Polder.

Prior to the event Cindy Pelz of the Iowa Association of REALTORS, or IAR, solicited those who RSVP'ed for questions on MLS policy issues that might be put to the panel. Well, either I was the fastest, or my questions were of a very timely nature because the Board led off by going through all seven of my questions almost verbatim. That was seven out of eleven questions covered total.

Topics covered were: Short sale MLS policies, withdrawn/cancelled status usage, FSBOA listing particulars, signs in yards of expired homes, agents-clients not allowing homes to be shown, variable rate commission usage, listing data accuracy, seller concession notations for closed comparables, disciplinary mechanisms for badly behaving agents (not my question!) and a few other related questions from the floor.

The food was standard breakfast fare: mixed fruit, danishes and mini-cinnamon rolls, hashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, and a heaping mound of bacon and link sausages. I filled up my plate and all seemed to really be enjoying themselves.

It was very enjoyable to be able to meet and greet fellow agents and have all my questions answered by the Board and hashed over by the crowd. I even got to pose a lock box question to Judy Bookwalter of the IAR. Questioning concluded and feeling very satisfied I enjoyed a 5.4 mile walk to get my car from the dealership where I was having the oil changed. What better way to work off those extra calories I might have otherwise felt guilty about!
