Let's remember it's a Team Sport

Yes, playing the Real Estate Game is a Team Sport!  I'm writing this blog in responds to a blog I read earlier this morning about Part-Time Agents vs. Full Time Agents.  That definition along could be a blog of interest.  Below are the things I think are necessary in order to have a Good Real Estate Office and the things a New Agent or Experienced Agent should be looking for in an office environment.

1. The Company--Do they have a good reputation in their Community.

2. The Broker/Manager-- do they have a good reputation in the Community and with other agents in the Board of Realtors.  Are they involved in the Board?  Do they encourage their agents to be involved?  Do that set the standard of involved in both their board and their community

3.  Sales Meeting and Training is this on going in the office?  Both of these are very important to the continued success of a real estate office.  If you are a new agent or part time agent you need to make sure the office manager/broker has a training in place.  Depending on the size of the office for example we have a office of around 25 agents and in most cases we are doing very small class or one on one training.  If you are a Full Time agent "you" are the most challenging for the manager/Broker.  You can be a huge asset to the trainer or one who continues to tear down the new/part time agents.  In the 30 years I've been a broker the so called "Full Time" agent have always been afraid of the so called "Part Time" agents.  And you know why?  They always say the same thing.  They don't know how to handle their business.  They are costing the firm business because they are new.  Thy don't know how to do anything!  At times over the past 30 years I've found it necessary to set that "full time" agent down and remind him/her that other agents in the office had the same thing to say about them when they were the "part time" or new agent.  Make sure there is a commitment to train!

4.  Be sure the Broker/Owner/Manager is always recruiting both new and experience agents.  It takes both to run a effective office.  I've tried it both ways and my office became very successful when I learned how to incoroparate both "Part Time/New Agents" and the "Full Time/Experienced Agents in the same office.

5.  All companies must be will to change.  Today's Real Estate Company cannot look like the 80's or 90's.  It's a New Business and it requires change in order to stay on top.  Be sure you go to work for a company will to change.

Some people ask about change well me writing a blog is a change and one I know is important to the future of my business.  Let's talk about that for just a moment.  The other night i was watching President Clinton in a interview talking about change and he said something I found very interesting.  In 1992 when he become President their was around 50 different Internet sites world wide!!  Think about that and then he said in the time it took for to say that there were another 50 new sites that just went up!  That is amazing.  Weather you like President Clinton or not I've know of no other leader who has manage change as well as the President.

In closing remember everyone was New/Part Time at sometime in their career and remember what engery that new agent brings to your office.  Stop and offer them a helping hand because if you are successful today ---someone along the way offered you a helping hand!

It's takes a Team to be Sucessful in the Real Estate Buiness!

Mike, you've made some good points.  Brokers are supposed to train but I've never had one who did.  I made sure I went off and received training through classes held at conventions, GRI's, CRS's, etc.  I think all agents should do that.

Hi Mike...I agree with the points you raised.  I especially like #3.  We all started off inexperienced and it required the help of others helping along the way for us to get where we are.  Yes, I take classes and try to learn on my own but even after all of these years I do not know it all.

Hi, those are good points. I think a lot of resentment happens due to new/part-time agents saying yes to things experienced agents won't do. When you're new "any business is good business" and many will accept a very low commission (actually commensurate with their worth at the time due to lack of experience), hoping that volume will either make them profitable or the experience will make them worth more.
