A blog a day or so ago showed the mud street leading to the house where my husband grew up on the very fringe of Searcy Arkansas. In the batch of pictures was this one also showing the street when looking East from the driveway of the Duncan house.
I've never seen a more beautiful child than this happy one playing with his tricycle but the interest is in the houses on the corner behind him. The old one on the right was torn down probably 40 years ago. You can see a rock house on the left side and it's still there. The huge barn is gone along with the outbuildings but the rock house, strong enough to last forever, is still there.
Trees block the view again but the electric poles are still there! The rock house was evidently built by the person who was doing the very complex rock and brick laying. The porch on this house has very low arches and could have been done with no ladder at all.
Now that we pay attention, rock houses similar to this one are found all over the city and the county. They last a long time!!!
