A Long Trip to Vegas
I'm leaving today to meet my parents and son in Las Vegas. This morning I got a call from my dad that their flight was cancelled due to inclement weather in the New York area. Seemed a bit strange because it was early morning and the flight was late afternoon. So they rebooked to leave tomorrow morning.
I had a 4:40 pm flight from Ft Lauderdale nonstop to Vegas. We boarded on time. I had great seatmates – Andrea on one side and Todd on the other. Young, vibrant, fun-to-be-with people.
We were in the air for about an hour when there was a medical emergency a few rows in front of us. An elderly man was ill. They called to see if there were any medical personnel aboard the aircraft. Thankfully, there was. A female doctor rushed to his side, took his vitals, talked with him and sat with him while the crew called emergency personnel on land. They stayed with him the entire time.
A decision was made to return the aircraft to Tampa. A decision we later found out was made by this wonderful doctor. The minute we landed back in Tampa, the emergency personnel rushed onto the aircraft and escorted the gentleman off the plane. He is a very lucky man, and I pray he is all right.
An announcement was made by the aircraft personnel that the gentleman who was ill, James, wanted to apologize to everyone for diverting their trip. Can you imagine? That’s what he was thinking of in a time like this? He was worried about the rest of the passengers instead of himself! How selfless! I was worried about him, and he was worried about us.
Two hours into the flight from Fort Lauderdale, we left Tampa bound for Vegas. It is 10:00 pm EST and we have not arrived yet.
