OPEN HOUSE SAFETY TIPS!
Every Spring, millions of homes are held open. A home is usually a private place. But when you have an OPEN HOUSE, you draw in the public and safety MUST be considered for both your Realtor, and the home owners.
Here are some things I have learned as an Realtor in regard to OPEN HOUSE SAFETY.
FOR THE HOME OWNER:
- Put away (lock) all prescription drugs
- Remove any valuable jewelry and items you can't replace such as heirlooms.
- Remove calenders providing your schedule.
- Remove pets that are dangerous, nervous or may bark or cause distractions.
FOR THE REALTOR:
- Consider putting a sign only at the home being held open. A well advertised open house is best when attended by people actually house hunting, rather than attracting street sign traffic.
- Keep your cell phone ON YOUR PERSON
- Stay by an EXIT/DOOR at all times
- Follow your instincts if strangers give you the creeps (walk out front door)
- Let your clients know that you can't guarantee the safety of their home. They may decide against having an OPEN HOUSE.
- Once all attendees leave the open house, LOCK THE DOOR before going into the other rooms and levels to turn off the lights.
- Consider doing TEAM Open House's if the location is remote or questionable.
- Have a SAFETY PLAN
Once you have your OPEN HOUSE SAFETY TIPS in place, ENJOY THE OPEN HOUSE, MEET SOME GREAT FOLKS AND GET IT SOLD!
