18 Comments on Speechless Sunday-Is It Tacky or Eclectic?
wow, what a room. where do you start with comments
Memorabalia, junk, tomAto, tomato... How can they track if things go missing? What a mess!
I don't believe that words actually describe what you've found. Tacky AND eclectic might be appropriate.....
Cindy...I can't even describe what I feel from your picture. Junk? Eclectic, maybe. Wow, might be had to remember what you were there for.
Bizzaro to say the least. I would be afraid of getting trapped in that room and having to endure the over stimulation of needless junk for any longer than I had to. :)
Cindy: Thank God it's a tourist attraction. I look at a room like that and think immediately how to declutter it and get it ready for market. In my opinion, there's way too much stuff in that room.
Very interesting indeed... based on the photo I would dare to say it is both tacky and eclectic--all in a good way, of course.
Hi Cindy...My first thought was, who runs this place and what is their story. Second thought, who dusts all these things.
Tacky in a quirky way.
Kate
P.S. What were you doing there? Were you a guest? How was the experience...other than maybe geting lost a few times?
Words can ere express...
Helping you help others live their American dream...
Ken-oh trust me we had plenty of comments when as we wandered through the rooms :-)
Donna-oh and EVERYTHING is for sale! I don't know how they would track some of the small things lying around but I guess it is an honor system.
Michael-and this is only ONE room out of 100!
Carra-you should have seen the John Lennon room! Ther was actually a holigram of John Lennon's face on the floor.
Paula-just think how crazy it is to realize that everyroom in the Mansion is similiarly filled with treasurers.
Chris Ann-it is actually a members club. Private parties and a lot of famous folks stay there since no one can find them :-)
John- I think it depends on how much you have to drink before you start searching for all of the rooms.
Kathleen-it is a combination of 5 DC townhouses. You connect to them through all of the secret passageways. I was there for a party for a friend who is a member. But I stayed a few blocks away at a "regular" hotel as I couldn't afford a room at the Mansion!
Michael-how true!
how interesting and quirky all at the same time. I need to read up on this more. Sounds like an interesting place to visit.
Martha-they allow you to do self guided tours during the week for a $5 donation. Something different to do in DC.
I'll go with eclectically tacky.
I'm glad to read that it's a hotel and not someone's home that you're trying to help them sell.
JIm-okay I'll accept your definition. If it was a home for sale we would be having an entirely different post.
Hi Cindy...Thanks for mentioning telling us a little bit more this place. I'm going to send this to my daughter-in-law. She likes funky things and if she has some extra time while in D.C. she might take a look.
Kate
Kate-it is just off of Dupont Circle so it is easy to find. Just look for the two big lion statues at the door.
