We all said Carter was the worst President ever - and he was elected because America wanted change then as well - when will we ever learn?

Now over 5 weeks since the BP oil platform explosion in the Gulf, BP seems little closer to solving the leak than it was when it occurred. Today they began the latest "fix" know as the "Top Kill" - a procedure that's never been tried in water this deep. It has just a guestimated 60-70% chance of success.

Mud is going to be forced into the pipe to equalize the pressure of gushing oil, and then liquid concrete is going to be poured in that will harden into a plug.

At least BP is doing something, but so far no results. The government is doing nothing.

Louisiana is doing what they can - frustrated by the lack of federal response. They are reporting 100 miles of their shoreline is now damaged with the oil. Obama's tone and demeanor is buiness as usual - he acts like it's no big deal. No urgency or determination in his voice. Clearly this doesn't rate as high as health care, cap and trade, or tomorrow's possible vote on financial reform.

The always eloquent Robert Gibbs, Press Secretary, says "There's nothing that we think can and should be done that isn't being done. Nothing." Did he really say this? Nothing? How about actually showing up and helping out? Pretty unimaginative response so far.

Gibbs went on to say that "We are continuing to push BP to do everything that they can." That is great reassurance, don't you think?

BP is reporting that at the outside, it could take until August to stop this leak.

Why is everyone so willing to let Obama get a pass on this? Would Bush 41 or 43? Reagan? Carter? Clinton? Think Iran hostages, Katrina, Waco, Valdez, Iran-Contra.

Get Obama some waders and let him go mop up some oil. Take along the cabinet and MMS.

I heard they didn't close it up because they wanted to get some of the oil put in the tanker first.

Today they showed BP had so many violations in the 800 range almost 900 while other companies had less than ten!

Nick,

I guess it's the old "grass is greener" principle. Thanks for reblogging my post. :)

Monika,

BP and the feds are virtual partners in this. Who can you believe and who really is responsible? :)
