On a little jaunt to Market Commons, an upscale shopping center in Myrtle Beach SC, at the south end of Myrtle Beach, my husband and I stopped by the Sun Fun Festival for a few minutes. I always get upset because owners who love their pets too much to leave them at home never consider what 95 plus degrees with a heat index over 100 can do to a pet.
First, you can't leave them in the car! Not even with the windows down a few minutes. On a typical southern day, your dog will be in trouble within 20 minutes.
Second, like the idiot I saw with his windows rolled up (I assume his air conditioning was on) and his poor dog was standing in the back of the truck with no shade and that hot metal, you deserve your britches jerked down and slapped bare bottom on the truck bed...see how you like it.
Third, I kicked my flip flops off because I had a little rock in my shoes. The parking lot asphalt was so hot my feet were cooking...imagine the poor dog's pad.
Fourth, where is the water? You need to bring water to keep them hydrated and no throwing frisbees in the hot sun. Dogs can have heat stroke.
Many people love animals and they are not going to allow an animal to suffer needlessly. There was an incident on Sunset Beach last summer where people were getting ready to break out a car window to save a little dog. A lady and her daughters walking out of a shop just as someone picked up a rock. She was so upset because she had only been in the store for a few minutes. We knew she had been gone over 45 minutes.
Animals love their masters and they do want to be with the family but reconsider before exposing them to hot temperatures this year.
