Why Should You Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

In business, there is somewhat of a game that has to be played. I am not talking about compromising in principles... The business you build must forever be intregrity-driven. I am talking about doing things that do not come natural.

I am not screaming Chicken Litte: The sky is falling (like the Media about the real estate market). But in all honesty, in order to take your business to the next level, you must be willing to step out of your little shell (I know I am talking to myself too). We've heard this saying way too often but it still stays so true: "If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got."

Hence, in order to be successful, you may have to do some things that do not come natural (dress, meetings, presentations, scripts, etc.) but that does not mean you are pretending to become somebody you are not. (I am telling myself this too) You are doing it out of the respect for your clients, your co-workers (and other realtors as well) and your profession.

Making a good first impression is essential. It is just the way of the world. When your client gets to know you, what you wear or drive becomes less important. Your scripts become more natural. It does not mean you were fake to begin with. Just say that when you are doing these things, you do them out of the respect of what your client will like to see and respect in an agent.  It is a part of being the best every day for your clients. Polished and professional.

That doesn't mean you are compromising anything! You shake and stumble at first, but eventually it becomes a part of you. So, are you ready to take your business to the next level?

Loreena - You are so right. I am preparing to step out of my comfort zone, to present to a large (500+) audience of real estate agents this fall. I will doing much preparation for this opportunity to I can present myself naturally. Your timing was perfect for me. Thanks so much.

Yes, good post.  Everyone does need to step out of their comfort zone no matter how hard it is.  This is one of the reasons I love AR.  There is so much great info posted daily.  Best of luck in you business ventures.

Comfort zone is just another term for self-imprisonment.  Once we stretch ourselves we expand and that means we are growing (mentally, emotionally, etc.).

Right on the mark! Not only will it make us feel better, but it does wonders for our entire profession. The reason we have a bad reputation isn't because of the media, (although they haven't tried to help) it's because of some of us not getting out of comfort zone and going the extra mile for our clients. When we are willing to step out all will change.

If you don't step out of your "zone" your growth can be stunted.  Welcome change and it will embrace you.

I reall agree. Your comment about not being someone your not is also sooo right on. I am tired of agents that don't project professionalism because "well that's not me"... ok then get another job.

Good post!

I agree , once you know your clients for a while you know who you can let your hair down with . Until the staying professional is important.

Professional & fun -- most clients are already outside their comfort zone during the homebuying or homeselling process.  It's our job to make the process seamless and fun if possible.  Being professional is key, but adding fun to the process is a second necessary step.

Loreena, you always make a fabulous first impression and it seems very natural to me even if you don't "feel" it. I know what you mean and how you feel too - but like any good habit, the more you do it the easier it is. Hope you're feeling good!
