Here's a Good Reason To Change Your Locks When You Buy A New Home:

A Simi Valley, California woman  arrived home to find a strange man in her bed.

The woman called the Simi Valley Police Department to report that a man with a shaved head was “passed out” in her bed, according to reports from the scene.

The woman reported arriving at her home and after unlocking her deadbolt lock and walking in, she found a pair of pants and shoes downstairs. She walked into her bedroom to find the man in her bed, clad in his underwear.

Front DoorThe young man lived in the home for years before and after becoming drunk went to the residence, unlocked the front door with 'his key' and passsed out. Police arrested the man on suspicion of public intoxication and public nakedness. The homeowner stated that she had never changed the locks when she bought the home years prior.  Lesson...Change Your Locks When You Buy A New Home.

Always a good idea when purchasing a home and especially if the home was a foreclosure. Who knows how many people had keys to your new house. Good reminder Maureen.

Our REO addendum states all the reasons why you should rekey the property.  It should be in our regular contract............for this reason!

Randy  Even if the old owner doesn't come back drunk you never know who they gave keys to.

Renee I agree...it should be in contracts.  My comment on Keisha's blog is that when I found the pants and shoes on the living room floor "downstairs" I would NOT have gone upstairs  into the bedroom.  I'd be out on the front lawn calling the police if I was her.

Thanks

Barbara's comment is the same one she cut and pasted on 9 (? ) other posts today.  A meaningless quote... so I used the Report a Concern button.  My hope is that  ActiveRain advises her to knock it off.

No Doubt Maureen!  I would have thought "whoa WTH?" and backed away.

LOL @ Barbara's comment.  Mid summer must bring the copy and pasters out of the woodwork
