The Winds Resort Beach Club on Ocean Isle Beach has been selected as the #1 resort in North Carolina last month by Resort & Lodges. Prior to this time, the unique resort was a well-kept secret known only to the returning guest who returned faithfully year after year, and those few who were lucky to pick up available lodging. It is truly a vacationer's tropical paradise...you would think you were on some exotic island. Ocean Isle Beach is located on a small barrier island off the coast of NC halfway between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Beaches are pristine and carefully maintained. Access to the island from the mainland is by a high-rise bridge...no ferry or swing bridge.
The Winds is a family owned resort. Miller Pope and his wife, Helen moved to NC from Connecticut. It was built in stages. Mr. Pope was an artist and he planted most of the gardens. He wanted his guests to escape when they were on vacation. There is a beautiful Tiki bar oceanfront and one can tell the employees really love the interaction with guests who are treated more like an old family friend. Guests have a choice of rooms, suites, and 4-6 room cottages across the street. Outdoor cookout areas and wedding reception spaces are available. Other Brunswick County businesses added to the list was Brunswick Plantation, Ocean Isle Inn, Sea Trail Resort, Bald Head Island, and Sloane Realty Vacations ( a division of my company). It is a beautiful area.
