Dealing With Unruly Passenger

I once wrote a blog post Got a License? ... Now What? about licensing, where I expressed disappointment that getting the license had very little to do with a day-to-day operations in Real Estate.

Margaret Woda, a wonderful AR blogger summarized it this way:

“we all need to know our state and federal laws regarding real estate and this is where we get that info.  I have no gripe with this requirement, but it's important for anyone getting into this field to know that it takes more - A LOT MORE - to learn this business because the licensing course is like a single drop in a big bucket.”

Of course, it is important to understand the legal requirements. That's fine. But how can the State in its sound mind (if sound mind can be applied to the Government) issue the license to practice Real Estate after making sure that the licensee is aware of the Statutes governing real estate?

It is like test a doctor on the knowledge of the law pertaining to practicing medicine, and issue him/her the license without making sure that they also know how to treat people?

Or testing the pilot only on the knowledge how to treat unruly passengers on board, but forget to make sure that he can fly (and if he can’t fly, no need to treat the unruly passenger, the bastard would die and thus be punished).

Something wrong with the sequence here.

Jon, I agree the sequence is wrong, some states (not California) are making the effort adjust the sequence.

Dan - if the State licenses you to practise Real Estate, shhould there be at least some minimum qualifications for the job.

And being of legal age is not one of it. It really does not protect the clients

In our State, you have to practice as a sales person for 3 years before you can become a Broker.  However, there is not any requirement on production.

I guess you could say the same for any profession the State licenses.  Insurance, mechanics, hair dressers, etc.

Perhaps a 'Provisional' status to the license until you meet the requirements for 'Permanent' is a concept that should be explored.

Michael - as far as I know with hair stylists not only you have to spend way more time in training, but the test includes practical skills.

that's what we are missing from Real Estate licensees.
