Surprise, Surprise...

Working on a blog I needed some info, and I clicked on the States pop down menu and clicked on Florida. The page that populated the screen was not what I used to, so I thought that I might have clicked the wrong button, and I went back, checked what I clicked and … got to the same page.

Of course, we are humans, and our tastes vary, but I was extremely disappointed. Needless to say the info I was looking for I could not even get.

I did not have time to research, and check what happened and why. And then I saw the blog posted by Endre Barath Did you guys see all the changes that just took place on the Rain? How

I was not the only one who was upset. I read the comments and got even more upset after reading the comment from AR. Unfortunately Jorgen “was not getting it”. Then I noticed the blog by Karen Anne Stone Once Again Active Rain "Fixes" Something that Wasn't Broken !, a lot of comments there, and a few comments from Jorgen, and again, I felt that they are missing the point. I found one of Jorgen’s comments simply insulting, as it was a cheap bribe and promise of big bucks coming from blogging.

I sometimes write posts that are very personal, and I am not doing it for the buck or two, and not for a big check. I am by far not the only one who does it. There are people who put their bleeding hearts into it. We are a human community first and foremost… How could they miss it so badly?

How could they miss that we are humans? That we warrant some consideration, and not being thrown under the bus because they have big plans for the Google spider or any other robot out there in the Universe?

Missing the target by such a huge margin is disheartening. Jorgen keeps saying that we need to stay tune and there will be something in store for us. So far the only detail was that there will be big bucks, which is not true and is insulting.

We got our big surprise today, and it is a very unpleasant one.

Jon Budish,

"I guess they aren't Realtors. If they were, they'd understand that the human interaction is still the most important factor for success."

Hi Jon, I'm the founder of ActiveRain and I've been a licensed real estate agent since 1997.

However, we did drop the ball in a few aspects on this site change. We are working on making things right. Hopefully we'll have something good to show everyone within the next 24 hours - if not sooner.

Jonathan - there is a problem with two sides on AR. One for consumers and one for the agents. The page you replaced was for the agents, so when you optimized it for consumers, I lost what I needed.

It was difficult not to be heard, but to be heard right. I can't blame AR for that, as it is easy to fall into the trap that we only here about the money and points. We are from absolutely yes to that notion to absolutely "no" and everything in between.

In this new thing one side was considered. The other was not even sensed.

i also want to say that you should not listen all this high horse crap that points are irrelevant. I honestly believe that AR outcompeted others by implementing the genius point system. It is what pushes so many of, makes us better organized...

Thanks for the comment, and we wish you and us luck.

Lane - I am not against consumers, but AR is a community of agents, and we can have space for us. This page was in certain way our page, and they tookk it away.

It is not "for consumers" or for "Agents"

It should be for both. And if it can't be done on one page, which it shouldn't, let's have two different pages.

Jon,

I hear where you are coming from and all I can say is give us a couple of days to work out a solution that serves both the consumers and the agents.

Jon I am impressed with Jonathan.  I never thought anything would come out of us expressing our opinions on this issue; who would have thought Jonathan would not only read the blogs on this but would take the time reach out to you. I think it's Great!!!

Lois:  Listening is fine.  Talk is fine.  Action that is meaningless is silly.  Real action that accomplishes something, and caters to our concerns... now THAT... is something worthy of a compliment.

Lois, nothing has come out of it... yet.  We shall see.

Lois - I would actually be very surprised if Jonathan wouldn't.

It is like with McDonalds. When it came and conquered the world, everyone was in love. But then others started chipping pieces of their glory, and it was more and more challenging to hold the patrons loyal.

It is happening in social networking, and AR, though a great place to be, has to be better and better to keep the position.

It is the law of enthropy. In order to maintain status quo, you have to apply effort. If you do nothing, it does not mean that nothing would happen, this "nothing" will be deteriorating.

So, the choice was to allow it to deteriorate, or apply the effort.

Even though we were not happy, we wanted Jonathan to hear us, because we know that we are in that together.

Luckily, many understand it. At least Jonathan does. But we will see.

Jon, sure I remember.  A great song.  I think Joan Baez made it popular for me.  I know it is much older than that, but back when she was a war protestor, back in the 1960's... she sang it with Martin Luther King.  What a time that was.  In 1968 I was just a year away from graduating college, and had already been teaching junior high school for four years.  What a time.

By the way, since Jonathon has dropped in, I can mention that the folks that are behind AR are REALLY behind AR... not just the technology platform, but the community.  They can't make everyone happy, but they are great folks.

Karen Anne - I actually had a disk with songs by Joan Baez. Because of the songs, she was considered OK by our watching dogs, and they even produced one disk.

And in 1968 I graduated from the high school

Hi Jon, I was asleep under a rock and missed all the cow plops going on here.  As I comment here your points are 555,404.  Nice number.

I could feel you bristle with regards to the big bucks comment.  Your past posts have made it very clear why you blog.

I did read Karen Anne's post and commented much further down from you.  I think she has close to 200 comments now.  And she is such a trooper.

She has replied to every comment and not just one liners.  As I said to Karen Anne in my comment.  I believe all the backlash has been addressed by staff and there are more new changes.

My biggest bone of contention - Communicate with us en masse - not just in people's blog posts.  Not everyone sees what staff has to say there.

Jenny - nothing will change. There is a crowd of agents happily drunkenly screaming that they love a new look, and they love competiton.

The more we go, the less patience I have for happy crowds. They do not hear anyone. Get as much competition as you want, but why take what we used?

I am a curious guy and always go to the county and cities and see who is doing what in terms of progress on AR. I now simply can't do it.

I do not say that everyone does it or that everyone should do it. I simply do not understand why to give someone new stuff they had to take somthing from us.

Time that Jonathan told us to wait is elapsed. All I see is a bunch of featured blogs praising the change. Now they have the voice of the crowd to justify a stupid thing they did.

It is not a matter what they did, it is a matter how they did it. I am thinking of leaving AR

Jon, just about every time I read something of yours, I like you more and more.  I just love your lable of "crowds of happily drunkenly screaming agents."  After reading that, I can picture these "go along" folks very well.

The former teacher in me would rather describe your "crowd" as a "classroom full of apple-polishers."  But, that's just me.

Jon in # 30:  That is so incredible about how you describe the "availablity" of Joan Baez disks in Russia in 1968.  Many burned heer records here because she was so anti-Vietnam war... and in Russia, they made her disks available to you... for that same reason.  I love it.

Back then, and as America sometimes does now... they just cannot seem to get some things right.  But, that is all part of America being a so-called "Free Country."  Obviously, in some ways, in some ways is "free-er" than others.

Back in the 1960's... America and Russia, at times, were very much ALIKE.  Protesters in the streets in Chicago in 1968... outside the Democratic convention... were beaten to a blood pulp by police on horseback with billy clubs... blasting through them and hacking them into submission, and then dragging them off by the truck-load.

And... protestors at Kent State... protesting the Vietnam War... Ohio called out the National Guard, and actually shot and KILLED four students... for simply protesting against the War.  Luckily it didn't happen that often, or that obviously, but back then... there were times when parts of America were very similar to parts of Russia.  Back then, as it is now, it was very, very sad.

Karen Anne - I think the more people were "anti" American here, the more chances they had to be used by media there.

The whole propaganda machine was exploiting it this way. They did not lied outright, they distorted. And anti war movement they presented as anti-America movement.

Our heros were Angela Davis, and long before her even Lee Harvey Osvald, when he has "chosen real freedom" and came to the Soviet Union and spend some time there.

We also had a few bombshell singer, who would have something unflattering about USA and then they would get to tour the Soviet Union, and it was quite ugly...

When I read about the events of 1968 with the  government using force, is so foreign to todays America, that it is even difficult to imagine.

Not that nothing was happening in the USSR, but the information about it was blocked from the media and the country did not now about it. It is hard to believe, but they were successful of blocking information even about the events like Ashkhabad earthqualke, that took lives of thousnads and thousands of people and practically wiped out the city in 1949.

No word in any paper... ever

Tanks used against people in Dnepropetrovsk somewhere in the 60s. Not a word
