Backpack Drive:  Help the Children of Worcester County Get Ready for School

backpack drive

The Worcester Regional Association of REALTORS is holding its annual Backpack Drive in an effort to help kids in Worcester County start the school year with the supplies they need.

All three of the offices of RE/MAX Professional Associates will be collecting supplies for this drive.  Last year we delivered 21 backpacks to local schools as part of this project.  We hope to surpass this baseline and provide even more supplies to the students in our area.

rulerItems that are needed include:

  • Backpacks
  • Binders
  • Pens and pencils
  • Rulers
  • Erasers
  • Folders
  • Crayons
  • Highlighters
  • Glue
  • Colored pencils
  • Pencil boxes
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Notebooks

All donations are welcome, whether a backpack full of supplies or just a box of crayons.  Cash donations are also accepted for this important project.

The deadline for supply drop-off is Monday, August 16, 2010.  You may drop your donation off at any of the following locations:

Kathryn we just delivered two car loads of school supplies and other goods to the charity that a club I belong to supports. I'm happy to see you involved and getting others involved in helping the children in need.

My parents, my grandparents and now my brother were teachers and I guess I never thought about needing backpacks. Last year I saw a sale at Walmart for a $1 a pack, if I had thought about it I would have picked up 50 and done something like this. I know my brother used to spend $1500 - $2000 on his classroom and his kids. That is a shame that that will all stop this year with the tax credit for teachers stopping January 1st, 2011.

Todd:  That is a fantastic idea - picking up supplies on sale for just such an event.  It is not right that teachers will stop getting a tax break on supplies they purchase themselves.  I had not heard of this - thank you for the information.  As with many things, there just does not seem to be enough money to go around.

When I choose a backpack for my youngest son, I pay attention to the practicality and functionality of the backpack. You have to buy only quality things that will last you a long time.
