What's wrong with my Realtor?

There are many types and styles of Realtors.  The most successful are trained and have canned answers for any question that a buyer or seller will ask.  Buyers and Sellers fall for this style over and over again.  This type of Realtor dominates the awards ceremonies.  The biggest problem for Buyers and Sellers is that this type of Realtor is purely dollar driven.  The goal of a Realtor should be putting more money in the Buyers and Sellers pocket then their own.

I am a Realtor with RE/MAX of Valencia and have been trained to serve the best interest of the Buyers and Sellers that I represent.  Yes, I've gone to the canned speach seminars.  There is no way that I will open my mouth and have someone elses' words come out!  Sincerity works for a small percentage of Buyers and Sellers.  Working with this type of Buyer and Seller is much more rewarding and leads to long term relationships.  It makes the job of Realtor become the Profession of a Realtor.

Following are questions and test a Buyer and Seller should implement when choosing their Realtor:

  • Interview your potential Realtor to learn if you are on the same page.
  • Listen to see if the Realtor asks questions to learn your goals.
  • Read between the lines to see if your interest is the most important to the Realtor.
  • Find out whether your Realtor has good relationships with the local Realtors.
  • Make sure your Realtor has a web presence and marketing plan.

&

  • My number one tip to Buyers and Sellers is to call, text and email your potential when they least expect it.  See how long it takes to be reached.  If you can't reach your Realtor in a timely manner you can be assured that your real estate needs aren't the Realtor's #1 concern!

Great tips...I am all for scripts but you have to be real!!!   And I do think those that are in this industry to truly help people will be around for a lot longer than those who are very self serving!!!

Tony, very good points. Scripts are fine but they have to be in your own wods to sound effective.

My guideline is to always try to be the type of Realtor that I would want to work with.

Tony - good advice. Some agent's sales tactis ooze with all sorts of canned speech. And then there are the agents who are always trying to "close" a client. Clients can see right through this. I always put my client's needs first.

In my opinion there are two schools of thought and styles of training.  Mike Ferry is purely scripts and don't deviate from them. Then there is Floyd Wickman compassionate training.  I have attended the Superstar Retreat and the Sweathog program.  Compassion feels better but scripts and diologue makes more money.  I want to be a representative rather then a salesman.

Tony - Great Tips.  I try to learn from the canned talk but I don't use them word for word.  It sounds false to me and it will show.  I am not good at lying.  I try to be myself and they love me for that.
