Know it all AND do it all?Know it all and do it all?

An out-of-area real estate agent called me as she was coming down from Salt Lake City. She asked if I was available to open doors to several homes for her clients since her electronic key didn't work here in southern Utah. I told her I was not available.

She went on to say, "I wish there was just one Multiple Listing Service across the state so I would have access to all selling areas."

I said, "Personally, I hope that never happens." I would not consider representing my clients in selling / buying in Salt Lake City, it's 4 hours away! Even though I am licensed to sell in the entire state, it doesn't necessarily mean I should. Instead, I'd refer them to an experienced REALTOR® for the following reasons:

  • All real estate is considered local
  • There are no connections with outside communities
  • The ability to represent clients to the fullest becomes limited
  • Lack of knowledge regarding areas, schools and neighborhoods
  • No expertise regarding up-to-the-minute city or county restrictions

In my opinion, it's impossible to know it all AND do it all. I represent clients in the areas I am familiar with and the community in which I am very much involved. Besides, there is less chance for making a huge mistake for lack of knowledge which as we know is no excuse when standing before a disciplinary committee or a judge.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Valerie,

Thank you for that reblog and I agree too. There is no way I could possibly represents clients all over the state of Texas. From my house to, say, Amarillo is a mere 8 hour drive.  Not exactly local!!  LOL
