Maryland Job Growth

  • The job growth of about 37,000 jobs is the largest for a January to July period since 1999.

  • In July, employers added about 500 jobs with most being in the private sector.

  • The state's unemployment is slightly above 7 percent, which is among the lowest in the nation.

  • The addition of private sector jobs in June was about 3,400 and in April and May the increase was over 5,000 jobs for each month.

  • New jobs related to the military's base relocation and closure initiative (BRAC) should be strong through 2010 for the area around Aberdeen Proving Ground and through 2011 for the area around Fort Meade.

  • The number of claims and the amount of benefits being paid for unemployment insurance are substantially below those of a year ago.

  • The education and health services sector has created about 10,000 jobs over the last 12 months.

Ron,

This looks like good news.  Now all they need to do is significantly reduce the crime in Baltimore City.

Ron,

The big job fair in Harford County should bring quite a few job seekers.

Ron,

Do people pay any attention to this positive news or do they only listen to idiots like Sean Hannity?

Ron,

We need companies that can adapt to changes so that they can provide long term employment.
