Fish River is a festive place to celebrate the holidays. The Fish River Boat Parade is a popular event, where 20+ participants cover their vessels with lights and decorations and travel up and down the river spreading holiday cheer. In February, Fish River area residents celebrate Mardi Gras by water and land, with the Krewe of Kroc boat parade and Krewe of Mullet Mates parade. The 4th of July holiday is a conglomeration of boats anchored together in awe of the spectacle of colors over the calm night waters.
Fish River provides a unique place to raise a family, as what might seem like a vacation to some, is a daily norm for Fish River residents. I could not wait to get home from school in the afternoon to ski with my friends on the river. We would ride the water until dark and then head home for dinner. I was traveling by water to see my friends long before I was old enough to drive. Today, I live on the water with my family and hope to be able to share some of the magic of my childhood with my own kids.
