Changing Times at the Shore ... from Ocean City, New Jersey

Just updating you on my return to my real estate job effective September 1, 2010 here in Ocean City (NJ).  Since early August I have picked up responsibility for my sale listings, conducted some open houses, and have taken some buyers around to visit sale property.  But overall, I have not spent much time in the real estate agency office, French Real Estate, in Ocean City, New Jersey.  But my relaxing days are coming to a close.  And I am looking forward to more activity.

I have joined with another agent to form a working partnership which will began a bit later in September, and I am looking forward to that new arrangement.  I have a different perspective about life, my job, challenges, etc as I move forward.  I remain quite positive, but also realistic.  Clearly, when one goes through quadruple bypass surgery; it indeed does cause one to think a bit about everything.

So it is a changing time here in our little shore town, our small barrier island just a half hour from Atlantic City, an hour driving from Philadelphia, three hours from my home town in Elizabethtown (Lancaster County, PA).  And as one of the dear "locals" down here (after having been in Ocean City since 1988 off and on), I enjoy the summer but love the fall.  Much more quiet and relaxed.  Try it, and you will know what I mean.

This morning my wife, Leslie, and I walked up Wesley Road, continued on the Garden State Parkway which leads to the Longport Bridge.  We walked up the bridge which we have divided into four sections ... the first quarter, a half way up, the thrid quarter which is half way down, and the whole bridge.  We are now making it to the third quarter crossing to the other side and returning back to OC.  From our house that via our walking route that is stretching to 50+ minutes ... and once we make it all the way, we will probably have an hour.  We try to do that once a day always, but sometimes twice a day - morning and night.

I continue rehab with a lot of aerobic exercises plus some light weights ... which will continue for another six weeks.  That has been the best part of my after operation activities.  I feel that I am back in action.  I now weigh about what I did when I was 36 years of age ... yips, that was 31 years ago.  Well, whatever, I have a new lease on life, continue to enjoy working, love exercising - and plan to again pick up a workout location indoors after rehab.  Just sharing a bit about my recovery and shore activities.

Finally, at this point in August the roads are clearer all day long, the parking is getting easier, and we have less people around.  We will have one more surge of visitors as we knock out Labor Day ... but overall, one can easily see the changes here in Ocean City.  I have visited the beach twice this year ... two more times than last year, and I plan to get down a bit next week when our son, Nick and wife, Cori, visit from California.  It's about the right water temperature for me to hit the ocean too.                        dap

Dustin, I remember Ocean City from 1969. I was drafted and sent to Ft. Dix for basic training. I had never been out of Texas. Imagine my culture shock! Folks in NJ thought I talked "funny". You are correct, fall in NJ is fantastic.

Best wishes!

James & Mike ... thank you both for your follow-up to my posting ... James:  it sounds like you have had a difficult time - wish you well too.  Mike:  I was teaching in 1969 and had a high draft number.  Best of luck to both of you.  Sincerely,                             Dustin
