It's August And The Landscaping is Terrible!

I just learned a great tip from a landscaper that might come in handy with vacant homes or those where the homeowner does not like to stay on top of watering their lawn.  With the dry final days of summer, lawns and flowers can dry up in a day and the impact on curb appeal can be devastating.  You can hook the sprinkler up to hit any beds or critical areas at the front of the home where dryness will hurt curb appeal.  You can purchase these timers from Amazon for as little as $21.  This worked very well for a client that worried about the amount of water needed to grow grass seed in a newly landscaped front yard.  It worked perfectly and within 2 weeks the grass seemed to be taking root.

Our heat index was supposed to be 106 today, it's been terrible on the plants, even with water they are dying from the heat.  Great idea, if you can hide/disguise/bury the hose, or around here we use drip hoses around the foundations.

Good idea on the timer. We have hot hot weather out here in Phoenix, but could use some help with a little water on some homes to stage better.

I purchased a sprinkler for our home at Big Lots and it was only $7.99.  Works like a charm.

We're looking at 98 degrees today - in CT!  We use a sprinkler sparingly; we have well water.  But it is fun to run through it w/ the dogs!  Julie

We've had a very HOT summer here in southern Ontario, with very little rain.  Things are dry and droopy now.

Jo - People are really environmentally friendly around here.  It's been a hot summer, so there are many brown and dry yards, but it sends a message here that you didn't waste water.  Brown lawns, even when selling, are very acceptable here.  Funny, isn't it?  It just all depends on what area you live in.

My water bill is through the roof and my lawn is still brown. It's been a hot summer in Northern NJ!

Sally,

I know over watering is not environmentally friendly but in more southern climates we risk losing trees and other plants with the excessive heat and dry conditions.  The advantage of the timer is that you can control and minimize the amount of water dispersed!  Jo
