What Kind of Site Do You Really Have?

I used to go to a lot of markeing meetings and get... ATTACKED !!!

"THERE HE IS... THATS THE GUY !!!"

and I would get mauled by marketing professionals who wanted to pounce on me with questions. I would get interrogated on the spot --- and people would get defensive about their websites.....

I would hear things like,  "Well.... I get a million hits a day, what do you think about that?"

"My website gets 100 million viewers and buyers a month !!"

And then one day I got smart (er)

Did you know.... there is ONE simple way to find out how effective you are on the web?

Check out this tool on http://www.seocentro.com its called the Metatag Analyzer.... Its on
the left hand side of the screen. Go ahead and type in your website into that toolbar.

There is a four digit code in there -- fill that out and hit submit. Then I want you to look
at how the search engines see your site and you will be surprised. Its pretty accurate.

This tool actually grades your site. Overall you may rate about a 40% in the big picture.
You may also see a lot of red error messages. This tells you how the search engines really
see your site. Its kind of overwhelming.... But every page you put out there has a grade from
0 to 100%. A lot of people don't know that.....

Oh and it gets better.....

The search engines will actually give your site a PR ranking... and every page has a popularity
ranking as well.... Most companies I do this for are shocked to have a PR2, (page rank of 2)
and that means that your site isn't ranked very high..... You are looking to be an authority site
if possible.... I like PR6, PR7.... those are nice but they take some work to get there.

** Five pages is tough to work with. You need more sites - or at least more pages...

It can also mean that you are not providing enough original content or value out there.

I like directing people here because its very humbling and lets face it... it keeps us all honest.

HERE IS ANOTHER ONE YOU CAN DO.....

If you are looking to see how many links you have try this one....

1. go to Google.com
2. type into the search window....    links www.YourWebSite.Com

and voila... you will see how many links you really have....  I have 80,000 links for my own sites.
A lot of profesional writers, and business coaches, (the ones that give me the most trouble) usually
have somewhere in the ballpark of 430 links.... worldwide.... total.

Try these and see what you come up with. This will let you know how the world really see's your sites.

** Also -- This Joomla language is a tough one to work with. If you want your sites to get ranked
properly it is particulary tough to work with.

Wow, thanks, Ted.  I have so much catching up to do but thank you so much for this valuable post. I just copied it to save it and have some homework to do. I am so grateful for this! I hve suggest it for a featured post.

HA!  According to the analyzer, just about everything about my site is "too long".

No choice.  I cover a market area of about 25 counties in 2 states.  Can't do that in 8-10 word title or descriptions.

Lenn, Yes... you have little choice here if you cover that much area.... I like to break up my content into smaller sites. There is a way you can actually create more sites, and not have to pay for any additional hosting. This is where it gets really intense....  http://www.1searchengineoptimizationrealestate.org/

Here are some things you can do with your content:

  • place links on your page to cover your counties and states
  • create a page for each county
  • create a separate page for each state......

Start to break up your content so its not all competing on the same page --

Hope that helps!!

Good luck!
