One of the aspects of real estate I find most fascinating is that no day is the same. None of them are just like the one you just had. Each day has new challenges and opportunities. I have heard it said that real estate is a simple business, it is not easy but it is simple. This simple truth is profound for me. So how do you know if you are gaining ground, other than the financial measurement of closed sales? For me the answer is also simple. Gaining ground is all about learning more, sharing more and doing more. Learning more is something that we control with our actions. Take time to read our trade articles, stay abreast of the changing laws and focus on new techniques using augmented systems. Sharing is about being open to others. Not all agents have this gene, but it is a trait that gives back so much more than you put in. The doing more is not about the hours you put in, but the work you do during those hours. Focus on your plan and work on it daily.
Since arriving in Dallas in January I have been so fortunate to meet and get to know some incredible agents. People who can be admired for their work and their giving. Agents who do great work for their clients and those clients reward them with more prospects. Spend as much time as you can with people like this. The rewards are your success. The opposite is also true. I have gotten to know some agents who are the opposite. People who don’t answer their phones, people who prefer not to stay up to date, people who think they have learned it all and are stuck in what they learned years ago. Spend as little time with people like this as you can. A perfunctory hello is fine and move on.
Focus and attitude is everything. Get in your zone early in the morning and run your race for that day. You will be challenged and you will be rewarded for your efforts, what could be better.
