Pick up your *#@! signs!

We live in a resort community that isn't very Realtor friendly. There are alot of us and the 93/7 rule certainly applies. Our town and county governments really like to make it as hard as possible to sell real estate and then they even added a transfer tax to every purchase made. I guess they want a piece of the pie as long as they can still point at us. The Town of Breckenridge had gone as far as outlawing open house signs! Fortunately, after many meetings they recanted and allowed signs in certain areas of the town as long as they were a color and design approved by the town.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. One of our competitors has either hired some really lazy agents or they have started a marketing campaign centered around leaving open house signs up indefinetly. Perhaps they can't afford the standard marketing methods the rest of us employ? The problem I see with people leaving their signs up is twofold. 1. The consumer is going to become less willing to follow our signs when we have an actual open house. 2. The local government is going to ban open house signs altogether.

Am I wrong? Is it that hard to collect all of your signs? What do you think?

Kevin, you're right on with your concerns.  Unfortunately, we have to police others in our industry or else we all get penalized.  One lazy agent makes us all look bad.  Good luck.

Laziness is rampant in our industry.  But the sign thing is learned FROM the politicians.  Haven't you noticed that politicians leave a lot of signs around the community after an election?  There are signs around here from years ago.  Really annoying.

Why is it so difficult to practice real estate n your area?  The local board should look into these burdensome rules.  California Association of REALTORS® (CAR) is on top of anything that will affect our industry.  The Janisch's (#2) made a valid point, maybe you can use it to your advantage.

Is it wrong to collect your signs, of course not!  Bad form of advertising, yea!  We don't want to annoy the community with signs left out overtime, they are too expensive and should be treated with care.
