Fine Jewelry Studio at the Gibson's Gallery located at the Greenbrier's  Art Colony

This is a continuation of a previous post on the Gibson's Gallery, one of the shops at the Greenbrier's Art Colony.  The Fine Jewelry Studio is located in the production area in the back of the main showroom of Gibson's.

Marty Schaerer, master goldsmith

Marty Schaerer has been making jewelry for over forty years and has been a rock and gem lover her whole life.  She started picking up Petoskey stones in Michigan with her grandmother when she was just a child.  She knew she always wanted to be a part of the rock and gem world. Now she resides in the West Virginia Mountains of Greenbrier County where she has worked from her studio at The Greenbrier Resort  for over 25 years.

Sarah Glotfelty, jeweler

Sarah Glotfelty joined Marty in 2006.  Sarah has collected gemstones and designed jewelry as far back as she can remember.  Sarah started at The Greenbrier as an apprentice and is fast becoming a skilled craftsman/master jeweler.

Marty and Sarah work with gemstones from all around the world.  They use all natural stones from the earth that have so much more to offer then most people realize.  They even find Agate locally which they cut, polish, and turn into beautiful pendants and earrings.   They hand fabricate wonderful works of 14 and higher karat gold and sterling silver to showcase the beautiful natural stones.

Inside their studio, are polishing wheels, soldering tables, a steamer and Ultrasonic equipment that is used in creating their jewelry.  The outside workshop is the cutting area where they use a slab saw to slice rocks, and a trim saw to cut the stones down to shape and cabochon.

amethystThe workshop outside had many large stones and fluorite chunks from China that are sold as specimens.  The amethyst geode (purple) is a natural formation that grows over hundreds of thousands of years.  Using a slab saw to slice the amethyst rock in half reveals the inner crystals as seen in the photo.  A nice accessory to place near a fireplace, office, or any where in a home.

Rebecca, I loved the slide show as it made me feel I as there seeing their studio.  Jewelry making is quite an art.  I had an Uncle that was a jeweler and his son still dabbles.

That was wonderful - I felt as if I was there in person touring their studio.  Beautiful jewelry, too,

Thanks for the lovely jewelry slideshow tour, Rebecca! I love looking at jewelry, but I'm happy being pretty much a window shopper...except when it comes to Tahitian pearls! :)
