Spiders, Turtles and Lizards..Gasp!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Morningside Homes, LLC 720-231-5200 DRE# ER300941

One of my past clients calls me to list his house.  Really nice guy and former Realtor.  He gutted the house and among other things put in new Bamboo floors. The house looked spectacular and I was excited to get the listing.

Then we go to the unfinished basement. It has a strange odor and he says ”oh! that”, let me show you.  Very carefully I walk across the basement to the other side and there I see boxes, tanks (as in fish) and cages.

The box has a tarantula the size of a football and fuzzy.  As I gasp for air and step back a few feet he explains to me that it looks like there are 2 of them in there but there is only one. Eventually at this time of year they shed their entire body and just walk out of it and grow a new one.  GROSS!   Lizard Love

Then there is a turtle that’s older than one can imagine and just doesn’t move at all. He is the size of  a basketball.

Next are the lizards (3 of them) and really long and ugly. We have to be quiet because if we wake them they will poop and pee in their cages and the owner will have to clean them out because it stinks so bad.

He has to do that before each showing and round up the 3 BIG dogs and 2 cats and get them all out of the house before anyone gets there.

Naturally we had lots of showings and he was a busy guy doing this comedy act every day.

Then one day  a curious buyer lifted the covers and open the spider box .

You can just imagine the feedback the showing broker gave me.

The house did close after all.

That's about as bad as one home we went on a pre-list appointment a few years back.  We affectionately call the the "Hall of the Dead"  because every wall in the home was loaded down with "Trophy Animals."  This guy was a real killing machine.

I don't think he appreciated our candor when we told him to lose the animal mortuary look.

LOL! Reminds me of a house I showed once w/ a HUGE snake in it. One of my buyers refused to go in the front door because she was deathly afraid. I tink that house eventually sold...just not to my clients!

I bet that curious buyer wishes they would not have been snooping.  Unless its fish, I don't want to see anything in an aquarium.

Jeanne-I too had that same experience with dead heads all over  the house.  It was a Bi-Level house whre you walken in the front door and go up or down.  On the landing was a huge stuffed black bear standing on his hind legs.  did not take the listing because the seller was too proud to remove all of his "friends".

Colleen- snakes are really bad.  Sellers need to get their petting zoo under control.

Rodney- I am absolutely with you on that one.  What good are lizards? I have seen people walking around with them hung on their backs.

Fish are fine and well behaved/restrained cats and dogs are okay.  But, anything else creepy/crawly or caged can be a real turn off for many folks.

Sue-Creepy, crawly and furry things with more than 4 legs can just go live outside where they belong!
