I used to be real surprised by our young people and how little math they know...But, I am not surprised any more.  Here is a ditty to prove my point...

A young college co-ed came running to her Dad crying..."Dad, you gave me some terrible financial advice."

"I did?" asked the father.  "What did I tell you."

"You told me to put my money in that big bank across the street from my dorm and now that bank is in trouble."

"What are you talking about.  That bank is one of the biggest bank in the state!  There must be some mistake."

"I don't think so," she sniffed.  "They returned one of my checks marked 'Insufficient Funds'."

Just the other day I was in a store and my bill came to $6.05 and I handed the young man a 10.  As he was ringing it in, I said here's a nickle.

"Oh, I can't take that...it will mess up my till!"

LOL, I laugh but it is really sad. My father used to drill me with math problems when I was little (for me to make change before the cashier was able to do it). I used to be irritated by it, but now as I am older (and hopefully a little wiser), I may not be able to beat the machine 100%, but I am pretty good. I remember him telling me times when he would give the 'extra change' to get exact change back and he would just baffle some people :-)!

I can't believe the amount of cashiers I see who can't count change.

Remember the old times when they used to count it out, back to you?

Nothing like a little edumication.

This is very funny, and sad at the same time because it's probably true.

Bill, It drives me crazy when you give that extra pennies and the teller has no idea what to do!

William, I know these are told as jokes (at least I think they are), but the last one about kicking in a nickel actually does happen.  Because of the automated cash registers...cashiers no longer have to think about how to make change...AND THEY DON'T!!!

Oh boy. That girl is in for a rude awakening when she enters the real world. Can't blame the bank forever!

Regarding the cashier and Terry's post (#3), I see that all the time. Seriously. If the machine isn't operating, they often can't figure out what the change should be.

The end of the Blog is a real occurrence that happened to me.  I have made it a point to let the manager know when these people can't figure things out and how inconvenient it is to try and explain it to them.

Waaayyy back when I was a teenager working at the movie theatre we had a cash drawer...just a drawer with money in it and we had to calculate prices and change in our head and then be held accountable at the end of the day for inventory to make sure it all balanced out....could you imagine that these days?!
