Put Your Goofy Grin On

Alpaca in Green Mountain Meadows, Livermore COI was driving through Green Mountain Meadows the other day and came upon these creatures, which I believe are Alpaca. 

They looked so cute and recently shorn.

The minute they noticed the car they started moving toward the fence to greet me---so friendly and inquisitive!

 

I love their goofy grins!

I'm mindful of people's private property and right to privacy, so as much as I wanted to stop, jump out of the car and wait for them at the fence or even pet them, I stayed in the car and took a few photos. 

 

I'm sure I wouldn't like it if someone stopped in front of my house, jumped out of their car and started taking pictures of my dog!     Charley, the dog wouldn't like it either -

 

but this guy didn't seem to mind at all!

HAHA Suzanne!  I apologize, of course it was very rude of me to take your photo while you were away on vacation :-)

 

Hi Kristal, Because they were so cute I did some reading ( I want one too!) they can carry a lightweight backpack or a small child - for heavier loads we would need a llama and we need at least 2 of them because they are herd animals and get lonely all by themselves :-)

LOL Jon!  I agree with you their hairstyle is goofier than their grin :-)

We staged a house once where the owners raised and showed these guys.  Their wool is great, and people who raise them say they are very friendly!  I even know of a ranch where they teach children about responsibility by "assigning" an animal to them for a period of time, and they must care for them, feed and groom them, so they must not be TOO mean! I too, LOVE their goofy frins!

Waaaa! Debra, I read where their heads are very sensitive, so if you get a chance, go for the neck first!

 

Hi Cheryl, from what I've read, I agree with you, they aren't mean at all and the more they are handled at a young age the more friendly they are. Not knowing the animal would make a difference - how could anyone resist that goofy grin, though :-)

There are a couple of things in life that I think would be neat to do.  One is to raise Alpacas in an environment like that, and the other is to have an Armadillo ranch:-)

Hi Mary, can't help but smile when you look at him! We have alot of llamas around here - adorable. I'll bet they are used to having people stop and photograph them, (their humans are probably used to it too!)
