Buying a home is all about tradeoffs !

Just like so many other things in life, buying a home is all about compromise and tradeoffs. Believe me, I guarantee there are no perfect homes out there in your particular price range, whatever price you're at !

Before you start your home search it might help to think through a list of your top 10 priorities and try rank them in order of importance.  Couples should first rank their priorities indivually, then compare lists, and try to agree and converge to one set of shared priorities.

The next step might be to get out there to see what's really available in your price range. That's where your priorities really get tested, questioned, and reassessed !  Maybe you've got to consider an older home or a longer commute if you really want that 4th or 5th bedroom.  Maybe you have to settle for a small yard if you really want a newer home.  Use this first phase of your home search not only to get a feel for local home values, but to adjust your own priorities based on the reality of what's available.  In many cases you're really learning a lot about your own true priorities as you go along. It really is a process that takes some time and some effort to see sufficient homes.  And finally, make sure you've got a patient supportive agent to help you through the process !
