Missouri..Stop the Transfer TaxJefferson City Missour by Ann Hayden

Missouri residents, agents...etc, act NOW to stop the transfer tax.

What is the transfer tax?

A real estate transfer tax is a tax paid when you close on a property.  The tax would be a percentage of the total sales price charged/paid and paid by every seller, buyer or both at closing.

The taxes are often paid by people who have lived in their home for years and have already paid thousands of dollars in annual property taxes so transfer taxes are nothing more than double taxation.

Although transfer taxes are not currently imposed in the state of Missouri, the Missouri Constitution does allow state and local government to impose transfer taxes at any time. That being said with the current state of the economy and tax revenues falling, politicians are looking for ways to increase revenues from alternative sources.  Real estate transfer taxes are charged in other states, including Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Arkansas.

Stop Double Taxation and Protect Our Homes.   Vote Yes on Amendment 3!

Great post Ann!  We have a transfer tax in Wisconsin, every seller has to pay $3.00 per $1,000 of purchase price.  The Governor tried to up it to $10/per1000!!  The Realtors Association was all over stopping that!  Good luck with yours.  I used to sell in Illinois, the biggest County - Cook - has it's own tax and the state takes their share too!  They tax us coming and going!!

The transfer tax here is $1.10 per $1,000 and while it doesn't seem like much, it continues to add costs to closing that some folks are unable to meet.  The worst thought, it's an open tax ... and could be increased ....  we all need to become much more active in looking at the "costs" from our clients' point of view.  Thanks for sharing ...

We're going through the same thing here in Oregon.  Transfer taxes are a hot real estate issue here, and they're trying to get it stopped here too!!

They're trying to do that here in Arizona.  Coming from the Chicago area, we used to call it the "exit" tax - you had to pay to leave.  Of course, it was less if you stayed in the came city, but you still had to pay!!!   And, in DuPage county, where I used to live, the taxes were over $7200 on my $250,000 home when I moved from there over 12 years ago - neighbors tell me it's over $10,000 now.  Isn't that ENOUGH in taxes?

Ann we have a Conveyance Tax here in Connecticut that is paid by the Seller at the Closing.  It was only suppose to be in place for three years to raise money to repair our roads.  Well that was about seven years ago, and we still have it.  Recently they have been trying to impose a Conveyance Tax on the Buyer as well.  How many times are they going to try to tax the same property.

I hope you guys succeed in stopping this, because once it is in place it will never go away.
