This is a ghost story blog that I wrote on ActiveRain on October 28 2007.  That is three years ago!!  But I never forget a good ghost story.  Unfortunately the link below no longer works but I found the story at this link. http://www.arkansasparanormal.net/History%20-%20Quitman.htm

You can be sure that because I like a ghost story I made a family friend drive me by the house when we were traveling through his home town of Quitman.  I've got pictures of the house below.

We all love a good scary story at Halloween.....or any time!!  In the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, the state newspaper, they had a very good story about a tiny city near Searcy AR called Quitman.  It has a picture of the old Victorian style house in downtown Quitman.  Quitman is much older than I realized since it dates back to the Civil War.   This house dates back to 1890.

The story is called "The Legend of Dog Boy" and tells about how this child named Gerald Floyd Bettis was a bad egg from birth and grew up to mistreat all the animals he collected (thus the name Dog Boy) and his aging parents.  His spirit as well as spirits of others before him remain in the house.  A truck driver owner now is having trouble selling it because of the "darned spooks".  A repairman who is now working on the house reports seeing all sorts of strange phenomena.

Check out this story at http://standard.arkansasonline.com/news/threerivers/ and enjoy it as this Halloween approaches.  Ummmmmm....wonder if I could contact this owner and list this house????

Look closely at the windows and see if you see "Dog Boy" peering out at us.  My friend said there was nothing to the story and perhaps there isn't but it's more fun to think that ghosts inhabit.  Come to think of it, I had a hard time uploading these pictures............  Dog Boy was watching???

Barbara, Terrific Arkansas blog. What a sweet looking house. I reminds me of one the same style and color along hwy 65 as you head south near Clinton. I cannot resist yellow cottages.

Hi Barbara ~ Like Charles I have a soft spot for yellow houses. Sounds like this house needs / needed an exorcism!

Charles, did you read the whole story?  Fascinating!  But it must not be true because someone has spent money on this house.  Ghost houses are supposed to be falling apart.

Liz, it is too fancy for a ghost house, isn't it?

Charles, that is too evil-looking a guy to be my godson.  Besides, he's busy running the Steve Smith empire.  I must admit you did a good job of filling in the window!!

As I live just l5 miles from Quitman and pass thru it everytime I go to Conway or Little Rock, I'm going to drive by this house. Great story.

And to Charles Edwards:  There is a beautifully kept, yellow house in Higden.  I "covet" it every time I drive by.

If Quitman were in White County, I'm sure I would do a story on this fascinating ghost story. Regardless I'm now interested in heading out there and checking it out...

Don, it looks like Dog Boy may actually be a spider man.

Anita, don't get spooked.  I thought it looked like just an ordinary house.

I did find it this morning, and couldn't see Dog Boy, or Nutsy, or ANYBODY in the window for the trees.  It's not well kept now, and much more growth in the yard since your picture was taken.

The stories are true I grew up in quitman my dad went to school with dog boy! That house has scared me since the first day I saw it before I knew about the legend! They have been maintaining it to sell but but no one wants to live in a haunted house! The lady across the street could tell you a thing or two about that house! Next time you go up there bring your dog see if he'll even get on the porch!
