If you are in DC and Halloween is coming toward you, then I am sure that you would like to find some pumpkins and a pumpkin fest!  We love Halloween here and there are lots of ways to celebrate, like the big party in Georgetown or the high heel race in Dupont Circle but these suggestions are for families and a certain type of the young at heart!

Put on your jeans and work boots - those hay rides can be scratchy and fun!! Those fields can be muddy too!  But don't you know that the best pumpkins are always at the end of the field in the muddiest parts!

Burke Nursery Fall Festival and Pumpkin Playground runs until October 31 - 9 am to 9 pm daily. 9401 Burke Road in Burke VA - www.pumpkinplayground.com or 703-323-1188.

Another possibility is Nightmare Manor is at 1900 Darnestown Road in Beallsville, Md. If you mention Washington Parents Magazine and the Washingtonians for Young Performing Artists will receive a donation.  Their website is www.nightmare-manor.com for catered food, bonfire, games and more plus a 45 minute trail and a walk through a real 200 year old mansion! They are open October 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and 31. from dark to 10

Green Meadows Petting Farm is in Jessup Maryland and open until October 31.  They have over 200 animals, a barnyard pals show, cow milking, a tractor drawn hayride, a free goat feed and a free pumpkin.  Check out their website for special offers - www.greenmeadowsevents.com or call them at 800-799-1166.

Butlers Orchard is celebrating is 30th annual pumpkin festival this year.  It is open every Saturday and  Sunday in October with hayrides, mazes, pumpkinland, barnyard buddies, the hayloft, pumpkin coach, giant corn bin, pony rides, pumpkin cannon, and pick your own pumpkins.

The Waterfront Fall Festival is coming up this Saturday at the Washingtonian Center at exit 9B - the Sam Eig Hwy and Washingtonian Blvd.  There will be free pumpkin decorating, scarecrow making and a canned food donation to Manna Food center.  The Children's activities, live music, petting zoo, food sampling, moon bounce, and children's costume contest sound like it will be a lot of fun, and there are lots of yummy restaurants there including a great Indian restaurant and Target for shopping for the last minute additions to the Halloween costumes.

Boo at the Zoo is coming this October 22 to 24th with more than 40 treat stations, animal encounters, decorated walkways and more! Check out the National Zoo site, Fonz.org/boo.htm.

After you have a wonderful time checking out the pumpkin festivals, you might want to start checking out the new homes in Bethesda, Chevy Chase or elsewhere in Montgomery County, DC, and Virginia.  Remember that Lise Howe can help you with Luxury Homes in Potomac, townhouses in Kenwood Forest, Studio condos in Foggy Bottom, and everything in between! Just give Lise Howe a call at 240-401-5577!

Lise, you have some fabulous pumpkin photos here!  You must need a really sharp knife for these designs!

I want to go to the Green Meadows Petting Farm. I can never resist the opportunity to pet animals.

Love the designs... I might try to replicate some of those. My favorite tool for pumpkin carving is actually my husband's drill... Works great!
