How to Carve A Pumpkin . . . From a Kid's Perspective

Craig Rutman recently wrote a blog about Carving a Pumpkin, Realtor style. Missing from his post was the critical selection process of picking a pumpkin and then the carving. With this in mind, we went through the full process, this past Sunday with grandson Raphael in charge

We went over to the Pumpkin Patch in the parking lot of St Anthony's Church here in Prospect Ct. There was a wide selection to pick from and it's for a good cause, to fund Mission Hope, which helps the needy people here in Prospect who have fallen on hard times.

Of course with the proper selection, mom has to help a little with here suggestions as well.

Not too small, not too large, a nice round surface and easy to pick up.

This is not something to be taken lightly, after all this is our first time at this and we don't want to mess up.

Once we made the selection. we went over to the Prospect green to see all the contestants and winners from the Prospect Pumpkin Festival.

Everybody knows that it's always wise to check out the comparables before moving forward into the competition.

Then it's off to the house to get started.

Once mom has helped with the knife to make access to the inside possible, then of course we need to scoop it all out. Feels kind of funny and squishy.

Just when I thought I was almost done, mom lets me know that there's still work to do, hands full at a time. This is not as simple as we thought.

Finally it's done! set it out on the porch, and of course, WHERE'S THE CANDY?

Happy Halloween

Hi Pat, this is one of the days when it's all about the kids, and next to presents what kid doesn't like to get a candy bar,  and the parents say it's all right. Thanks for stopping

I've come to the conclusion that young children identify with Jack-O-Lanterns because they are both missing teeth.

Bob, I hadn't done it in years. Whenever I had a knife in my hands I expected to be cutting something to eat.

Craig, I just sensed something was missing

I always clean the seeds, count them, roast them, eat them, and then donate $1 per see to cancer research.

It was my husband's job to carve the pumpkin and my task to get  kids ready to go trick or treating.  I think I got the wrong end of the stick lol.

I have to say it was always one of the most stressful days of the year.

George, he doesn't display and bit of squeamish. Of course, a lot of that is because he knows he's with people that protect him.

Thanks Hannah, it did come out rather well. The little candles that will get lit on the inside will also help

Russel, that's an admirable thing to do. we cleaned lightly salted and roasted as well and Mom and Grandma ate them.

Jenny it is a kid's day and almost any costume would have sufficed

We seem to recall a photo full of pumpkins, all lined up on the bleachers.  Are we going to see that again this year.

Hey guys, follow the links, those posts were already done last week, but they're linked within this post. This year was significantly larger as well. Weather cooperated perfectly as it was a warm clear Saturday and bright star lit night. They also moved the location to the Town Green in front of the library where they used to have it in front of the town hall.
