I am a Benicia California resident and run the Reach Out in Benicia substance abuse program for the youth and young adults. I have run the program for the last 18 years and have worked with over 6,000 youth and have seen a lot of problems. I have encountered so many young people with pot problems. I know all the arguments to legalize it at this point, but I have had about 30 youth a week for the last 18 years and the majority are pot heads and looking for help to stop. I have a feeling we are headed for disaster. I know we need tax dollars, but I believe we will be spending much more money that we raise on taxes on treatment.
I am totally for medical Marijuana, but feel we are making a big mistake.
Are we loking for money in all the wrong places....
We will see....

here is what they have put on the ballot.....I don't see anywhere about treatment monies.
The question on the ballot:
Measure C: "Marijuana Business Tax. To help preserve essential services like fire, police, and 911 emergency response, shall City of Sacramento's business operations tax be updated by taxing businesses engaged in medical marijuana transactions, and in commercial production and sale of marijuana if legalized by California voters, at maximum rates of 4% and 10%, respectively, of gross receipts, with City Council discretion to lower tax rates or raise tax rates to the maximums, and requiring independent audits?" |
