Don't talk to me about Politics - my tongue already hurts...

There's a catchy title huh?

I don't mix politics and business.  Nor I mix religion or any other controversial subject.  As a Realtor; I don't discriminate against anyone; nor do I discuss these things.

That being said; I was annoyed recently when a client (whom I really like) starting spouting off their political views.  They have strong views (and so do I); but we are in a business relationship.

I (half) joked and said; I don't discuss politics and religion with clients.  The client said; "I don't care if you are (conservative or liberal)."

Of course that didn't stop it.  While it never got offensive; I was biting my tongue pretty hard.  Yes everyone is entitled to their opinions; but when one person says; I don't discuss this - coupled with the fact that why would I want to risk a client because I told them I completely disagreed with what they were saying?

It drives me a bit crazy.  It is sort of like reading some Realtors (or other business folks) blog pages and they are spouting Religion and Politics.  I always ask: Why are you alienating so many potential clients?

I agree.  I think that we as realtors don't need to use any political signs on our cars or houses or bodies.  What we think should be kept quiet.

James - While I do GENERALLY agree with you on that one, I DO have an HRC sticker on my car. It is the only one, even the OM decal has come off. But if a client asks what HRC stands for and I explain and they don't like it, my attitude is they can move on! That is one thing I WILL stand up for, equality for everyone. There are so many people in the world that express offensive opinions about the entire GLBT issue and those people are simply not clients I want to have.
