So I just returned from a board meeting for Habitat Cabarrus, we were talking about development and opportunities for the upcoming year. Can I tell you how EXCITED i am to be involved in this organization? We're hoping to build more houses at full funding in 2007 than in any of our preceding 16 years, and identified some new partners to help us meet these goals. Our affiliate is young, and already our homeowners contribute over $100,000 to our tax base annually!
The mission of Habitat is to help families build and purchase their own homes to escape substandard housing. One of the myths of Habitat is that it 'gives away' houses. This isn't so! Our homeowners go through substantial financial training to plan for budget changes that go along with homeownership. They also contribute a minimum of 250 hours working on their homes and the homes of others. The loans are interest-free and the homes, by being built by volunteers, are sold below market value.
Our ReStore just reopened on October 28 (after being destroyed by arson earlier this year). The store sells new and gently used items for the home at a fraction of retail prices. Every bit of our proceeds from the store go directly into Habitat Cabarrus' ecumenical Christian housing mission. If you have items that might need a new home, we also pick up! Please visit the habitat website at http://www.habitatcabarrus.org/ if you are preparing a home for sale and clearing out the rooms and the closets. Or if you have purchased a home and need items, visit the ReStore in downtown Concord before you head for the retail stores!
I am very grateful for the roof over my head, and feel that, as a real estate professional, it's my duty and my challenge to get roofs over as many heads as possible!
