What Should I Wear To The Fall Ball?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executives
This tree is apparently having a problem deciding between red and orange.

There are many advantages to living in 30 to 40 year old subdivisions and Fall color is one of the most beautiful. The wide array and depth of color is very obvious in the contiguous subdivisions of Old Bridge Estates, Westridge and Lake Ridge since the homes are sited on large, heavily treed lots. The photo below was snapped on Smoketown Road which runs through Lake Ridge and Old Bridge Estates.

Karen  That is a lovely tree, but I've never noticed it as many times as I go on Smoketown Road

Karen, those colors a magnificent!  I love the different hues of red, yellow and orange this time of year.  Our trees are just starting to change color here in St George.  We don't have much winter, thankfully!

Erika  I certainly hope we have a lot less than the 50+ inches we had last year - we get a bad winter about every 10 years

Hi Karen, I loved the beauty of your tree.  I can't decide if it is a hard maple or a sweet gum.  I am leaning to the sugar maple.  What say you?

Bruce  It is a sugar maple - our gum trees aren't as colorful.  Additionally, the gum trees were brown several weeks ago - I took this picture yesterday

Karen you can not get much prettier than that.  I think I would wear the red, makes more of an statement! : )

Karen I love the title.  Like you, I love some land and tree surrounding the house.  We are fortunate to be front row to such dramatic changes in the seasons.

Looks like orange and red goes well together we can take a hint from nature :)

Diane  I think I agree - orange doesn't do well with my white hair

That tree is stunning, Karen!  And I love the way you made this beautiful photo relate to some nice mature neighborhoods!  And it definitely wouldn't be a sweet gum - we have about 10 of the darn trees in my yard, and they appear to be good for nothing - they drop those dastardly balls, they don't have pretty fall colors, and their roots run very shallow.  OK, so I don't like sweet gum trees!

Karen--I laughted out loud at your comment that this tree could not decide between the red and ornage.  That is EXACTLY what it looks like---beautiful patches of both colors all over the tree.  I disagree with Melissa above---Sweet Gum trees are a rainbow of color in the fall.  Maybe they turn differently in different locations.  Mine was gorgeous this year.  Communitites with mature trees are wonderful in the fall......and spring.......and covered with snow.......and for the shade in the summer!!

Melissa  They are a nuisance and not at all pretty in the Fall

Pat  Sweet gum trees may be like people - they are not uniform.  Like Melissa our gum trees in the east are not lovely in the Fall
