John Wayne's one-time bartender, with a gift for gab and some wonderful stories, Bill and Madeline opened up Hogan's Alley in Temecula recently. A sign for $1 hot dogs and draft beer drew in Sand to Sea Properties agent Rachel Dunhoff yesterday. Rachel says, "We sat at their counter for 3 hours chatting it up. He used to bartend for John Wayne. Great conversation, $1 cold beer & the best homemade pickled eggs ever!"
For those not keen on pickled eggs, give these a chance: Madeline makes them with hot peppers so they are really spicy. She makes everything from scratch. As for the rest of the menu, it's deliciously old schoo: they have $1 draft beers, hot dogs, liverwurts & rye sandwiches, fruit rolled pancakes, pot pies, meatloaf, beef stew, chili pastrami with sauerkraut.
Hogan's Alley is open from 10 - 6pm every day.
Location: about the same distance West from the 15 freeway in Temecula as Costco is to the East of the 15 freeway, 27470 Commerce Dr., Temecula. Click the pic for googlemap directions:
This sounds like a reasonably priced "find" of a little hole-in-the-wall that might be a regular weekly outing for lunch without breaking the bank. Give it a try!
