Okay! I've sent my 1st post... NOW WHAT?

By

Me! :)Okay! You've sent that first post....

"Hi my name is Joni and I am scared to death...."

Now what?

Lets set you up to do more. The more you post, the less scary it becomes. BUT FIRST... lets hook you up with a few basics that you WILL NOT KNOW unless somebody tells you.

  • Title:Catchy is good. Some people will not even glance at a boring title. Sad, they may be missing a great post!
  • Entry:Since you're still scared. Try something easy... Write about an upcoming event in your area. 50 words or more will earn you 200 points. YOU DO NOT have to write a single word. Joshua does almost ALL photo blogs. Check him out! It's your blog... Do what you wanna do! :O)
Some Examples:
  1. Grand Opening of (anything) or a Local Business Review
  2. Santa Photos with your pet at the local animal shelter or other Christmas Happenings
  3. (Your Town) Lions Club fundraiser
  4. Community Theatre Review or List of Performances
  5. Write about your favorite employee at the corner gas station... how you enjoy going in there because they are so great! This is going to be one of my next posts!
  • TAGS:Since you are writing about local events, here's a suggestion of what you may put on your tag line if you wrote about the Riverside Area Lions Club Christmas Parade. Remember... these are just basics... one baby step at a time! AMEN?!
Walker County Texas, Riverside Texas, Lions Club Christmas Parade
  • VISIBILITY:Public (You want buyers and sellers to see it!) Save the Members Only posts for the ones that you really don't want the public to see, BUT keep in mind, they can join too (and do). Whatever you post should be something that you will not be embarrassed for your mother to read.
  • POST TO:You can (and should) choose 5 places to post for more visibility. This will generate feed back and comments from your peers. Since this is a Hyper local Post about a community event, click on Hyper Local, enter your state, county, and if applicable, the city. Stop at county if it is not city specific!
  • ACTIVERAIN CHANNELS:Since this is Hyper Local, click on Active Rain Channels and type in the word Localism.
  • MY GROUPS:TODAY, find some of your favorite active rainer's and click on their profile. On the left column, click on groups. You will see a list of groups that they are in. If you see any that may be of interest to you, click on that group and then read more about it. If the group fits you, click on join the group. You should post in at least 2 groups that are applicable to your Localism post. I often choose ALL THINGS TEXAS and HYPER LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMMUNITY POSTS
  • CATEGORIES: IF you can't find 2 groups that fit your post, click on For Consumers: Regional News and Events
  • OUTSIDE BLOG: Since this is a hyper local post and it you have selected Hyper Local and ActiveRain Channels, you only have 1 other places to post. OBVIOUSLY you should post to your outside blog. (Have you set it up yet? If not, click here).
REMEMBER: This is just to get you started.... Past that Freaky, Scary stage! Once you are more comfortable, you will begin to explore and post in other places. This is just a simple, basic way to get you started. Soon you will be well on your way and posting all over the place.

I am a newbie too! Heading to RainCamp on Monday in Houston, Texas! I can't wait to learn all the things that I am doing wrong, so that I can do them right. Stay tuned. I plan on sharing that information with you too! BUT... one baby step at a time...

Since it's the Christmas season... I'll put it this way...

♫ Put one step in front of the other... and soon you'll be blogging out the door... ♪  :O)

Current Challenges to help you become dedicated to blogging:

Not only will these help you write a daily post (or two... or three)...
you'll be earning a few points while you learn. Is that cool, or WHAT?!

This post is a result of Bina's Post this morning. Please visit her and welcome her to the rain!

Thank you, Vickie!!

Melisa: I sure hope so! :)

Carl and Ceil: That is solid gold advice! I now have friends all over the place. My world has exploded! :O)

Liz: Man! It sure took a long time for someone to say something about that lovely photo! :OD  I can't believe it took that long! Hopefully it made you laugh! That was the whole point! ☺

Lizette: It was TOTALLY mind boggling when I joined in June. Didn't start doing anything till the end of July. If it were not for the 30 in 30, Karen Bernetti, and the ones that took the challenge supporting and encouraging me, I would have given up before ever getting started.

William: NO IT IS NOT TOO LATE. Click on the link and write your first post with all 4 or 5 days on it.

Angelina: You go, girl!! Rock on!!

Great tips, Joni! Now I wonder why your post is so wide and doesn't wrap! Do you develop your blog content in an outside editor and then paste them here?

Thanks for the advice Joni, I have just started blogging and the 31 Day challenge was just what I needed.  Something simple to write about and the discipline of doing it everyday.  I'm still not sure i understand the Hyper local stuff yet but I haven't gone through the tutorials.  It's on my list of things do do for the 31 Day challenge.

Hey Joni,  consider submitting that photo to the the Department of Safety for use on your drivers license: should you be stopped by a cop--the photo will bring some levity to the situation.  He may be laughing so hard that he can't write a ticket.

On the serious side: posting that photo should tell those who do not know you, that you are comfortable in you own skin, and you have no need to put on pretense.  Thank you for that.

Also, thank you for the great post: it was exactly what I logged on for today.  I am looking to make my blogs more beneficial to self and others.  You've offered several thought to help.  Thank you.

Best wishes to Bina, to whom I say, "Let it Rain!"  Come daily, read & learn, and contribute.  There are a lot of Joni's here--people who want to see you succeed.

Thanks for the info and tips.  Great summary and outline of what it's all about.  I most definitely am still trying to learn it all.

Will look for you tomorrow!

Hi Joni, This was neat and congratulations on the feature. If I were a new ( newer ) or still trying to find my way, I would find someone or two or three that I could relate with and liked what they blogged, call them and ask them to mentor me. Chances are they would be honored to do so.

The second thing I would do is call some of the local bloggers in your area and establish that you are a new member and would love to support each other.

When I was new I called Jeff Dowler. We have been friends ever since. We are true supporters of each other. Plus when ever we need something or find something new technology wise, with our locality, we share it. If I had or Jeff has some burning question or problem, guess who we call.

BTW, When you go to RainCamp, you will meet Kerrie and she is totally wonderful. What a dear sweet person. You will adore her. We all do.

Wonderful things to learn, wonderful people to meet and renew acquaintances and you will come away with so much.
