Check Your UNHEALTHY Ego At The Door

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

CowellOften in teambuilding exercises the facilitator for the various tables with people that are broken into groups for role play are told to check their egos at the door. In other words equal participation and everyone contributing their weight with their own unique personality and not dominating anyone else. I have found loud people think because they are loud they can dominate. Never affects me however but does many others. But with our real estate clients across the table from them or in our vehicles or in your personal relationships we need to

Check Our UNHEALTHY Ego At The Door.

Why is this necessary? Well, you want HIGH emotional intelligence, something sorely lacking in most people.

It means you have high self-esteem, you handle the quirks of others with aplomb, and ABOVE ALL not being unhealthy with your ego you stave off these four useless needs that EASILY can hold you back from being a GREAT person. They are truly energy vampires to our life. Get rid of

  • ENVY - discontent with the advantages, success, possessions, status of another and you perceive yourself LACKING compared to them
  • SPITE - a malicious desire to harm another, being bitter, to offend or ignore someone so you will feel better or bizarrely they will feel worse
  • NEED TO PROVE YOURSELF - you are thinking you are not ok just as you are, coming from a point of being deficient compared to another, when all along you are just fine right where you are today
  • CONSTANT WORRY ABOUT HOW OTHERS PERCEIVE YOU - you have to face in life it is a fact you will not please all the people all the time. You will be miserable if you try to do this or go insane trying. Let go of other's opinions about you

Being EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY should be a solid goal for all of us, with checking out those bad qualities a strong ego can lead us to. Many REALTORS with their big prima donna egos that say I am better than the next person are FULL of these energy vampires in business and in their personal lives. Don't you be one of them!!

Big fan of the emotionally healthy. It involves realistic information about our own lives. Accepting people in our lives as they are, and love them anyway. Loving ourselves the way we are too....then we don't need to project our feelings onto others in the form of Envy, spite etc...all your points.

Great post- this could help agents work well with each other also- not just help with communication with your clients.

Our jobs as Realtors is to take the emotion out of the process for our clients, not infuse one.  Nice reminder to be professional and be emotionally balanced.

Gary: I just had one of those moments today and ended up feeling horrible about it--an agent who was a friend for years was using me as her agent and she  dumped me for my office-mate when I was honest with her about the way her house looked! I made a spiteful remark to her (my office mate) today and felt terrible afterwards.....I saw immediately how it appeared and felt like I needed to "explain" I ended up dropping the whole thing-but still feeling that I needed to get over it!

Ginevra: Thanks for stopping by, have a good weekend too.

Karen: It's when we get away from love we falter.

Tommy: Between agents is a good point.

Connie: Being professional is simple to do, but so many struggle with it.

Paula: Just have to move on I would say from that, and just remember next time not to be spiteful. Forgive yourself.

Gary,

Hmmm, I think I am now much better with last two items. I attribute it to age. I got to get somethhing positive from getting older. At least getting wiser (LOL)
