It's Wanting What You've Got!

Thanks to one of my favorite artists, Sheryl Crow, for this blog post topic, based on her song Soak Up The Sun.

I realized a few years ago just how very true this statement is.  If you have what you want, you will be a more complete, happier person. I'm not suggesting you don't strive for improvement (notice what I said), I'm just saying, be thankful for what you already have and appreciate it.

I am so grateful for:

  • My friends and family. Can't be replaced.
  • The roof over my head with heat and hot water and 3 furry friends to share it with.
  • The feather bed on my mattress - makes my bed feel like a nest on chilly winter mornings here in Jacksonville Beach, FL (yes, it does freeze here, Virginia!)
  • My physical ability - I may have a few dings and dents from the years, but I have full capacity of all my senses.
  • My ability to accept change and flow with it. The universe is always suprising us!
  • My profession - I have wanted to be in real estate since I was nine, and my father told me no at the time. Wish I hadn't listened then, but glad I made the career change. I love what I do. Every single day.
  • My ability to challenge myself, professionally and personally, on a daily basis.
  • My naturally inquisitive nature  - some might call it nosy, I prefer naturally curious!
  • My increasing efforts to become more "domesticated". When I bought my house 6 years ago, I only used the refrigerator in the kitchen. The stove has actually gotten used quite a few times over the past few years!

What are you thankful for?

Well right now I'm thankful for the fresh coffee I'm drinking :) Great perspective Carol, takes a little effort to look at and be grateful for what we often take for granted but it's quite powerful. Happy holidays!

Carol,

I agree we need to enjoy all the little pleasures in life. They really do matter!

Diane has it right, is zeroed in and content. Living in moment, knowing gratitude is riches is an expression my mom used that stuck with me. No one likes to hear you whine. Someone else is always worse off. Complaining makes you stay in a hole. Not going to bed hungry, knowing hunger or wondering where your next meal is coming from. Not having a forever home like your cat that is so glad to see you at the end of any day. You are healthy, the kids are too. You love your job and are in the right place for you. That is way way more than enough to keep you happy, content.
