Most everyone who has ever posted here on Active Rain has been affected by the spammers that attach themselves to our posts offering essay papers or thesis writing. Uninvited and certainly unappreciated but they don't seem to care they just grow in numbers. This past week I have decided to search them out and remove as many as possible. I have spent quite a few hours going back through posts and reporting them in hopes of seeing them gone. We should all check our own posts and report any that are spam looking for a link to attach themselves to. We will never stop them all but we can certainly reduce their numbers. Happy Holidays and thanks for reading.
What do you mean? How would we EVER get our essays, term papers, buy our UGGS or Coach purses without these helpful vendors. I L♥VE the 10 points!!!
Randy, hear you. But constant battle. Have an outside blog that attracts but we bug zap them off as soon as they knock on the blog post comment door. Kill them in their tracks with bright blue light, a flash of radiation and poof, they are gone. The Captcha test is hard even for humans, not just robots. Drug companies are the worst, biggest offenders of the hitch a ride on your blog post ritual.
I posted a comment on one of my blogs that has been hit with spammers over 30 times that I would assess a $500 posting fee for any external ads. I know it will not stop them, but it makes me think (delusional) that I will soon be making more money than Google since my Adwords are $500 instead of just a $1 or so. LOL
I personally haven't seen this yet on any of my blogs. But as soon as I do I'm going to report them (and get the 10 points while doing so!)
I have recently reported a few myself. I hate SPAM and the constant barrage of emails to my website due to spammers.

Randy,
Good luck in this endeavor. I got 100+ spams in an hour on my move.com FeaturedBlog on Thursday. And it was set to email me with notification of comments....
I'm joining the chorus of I love the 10 points for reporting them. I have not had to deal with them on my blog but I have racked up quite a few points reporting them on others.
I didn't realize we could get points for reporting them. I've just been deleting them when they comment on my posts.
Lots of spam out there - I also report and get the 10 points. Glass half full thought - must mean they think it is a worthwhile site. No spam means no one is noticing.
Mel
The good news is Activerain took its own assault on spammers this week disabling any links from non-members. Hopefully this will finally put a stop to them.
