I do this without thinking and I bet you do to.  This is a form of finalization of getting a listing or contract.  It's often done by the female sitting, the male standing and you can use either the right or left hand but the right hand is usually used.  Now for the meaning of (the' nar) the palm of the hand.  I relate this to a handshake.  It's a lost art, what a shame.

I looked it up. . and THENAR is the fleshy skin on the palm  of your hand. .the one at the base of your thumb

Thank you James for bringing this out and now. . .how would I use this in a conversation?

We think the handshake might include a little slide of the thumb on "thenar" but not too much sliding of the thumb ~ might be considered a little erotic ~ oops, is that true James? Did Karen catch anyone's attention???

The handshake is fast becoming a lost art. The days of a handshake sealing a deal without written backup, for most, has been lost for years. Sometimes the old days are better!
