You've Got to Roll with the Changes

Times have changed, and they will continue changing.  The wheels of progress will continue moving forward.

Yesterday, my youngest daughter, Sam, was waiting to hear back from a friend on a project they were getting together to work on.

"Sam, has Susan called?" I asked.

"What?"  she asked, as if I had just spoken in a foreign language.

"Has Susan called you yet, or do you need to try and get in touch with her again?"

"Mom, my friends don't call and either do I. We text each other," she responded nicely, but as if she was talking to a mentally challenged person.

Silly me, what was I thinking?  Now I remember Christmas day, where both of my daughter's phones never stopped buzzing with new text messages.  And, come to think of it, I don't remember ever hearing either of them having an actual conversation with anyone.

Funny, I still actually enjoy talking to my friends, rather than texting.  It's so much more personal than texting.  However, in the right situations texting can be invaluable.

Is it just me, or does all this teenage texting make your head spin?

Oh, how times have changed!

Hi Sandy,  I'm with you on this whole texting thing.  I've done it but it seems so impersonal.  I miss the sound of a human voice.  I wonder what this says about our society ?  Hope your 2011 is the best ever !

Sandy,

I agree with you, and there is a trend showing that many tech companies, Google for one, is using the old fashioned phone to get more business...sometimes things revert back, everything is possible.  A

OMG Sandy, it's gotten so bad I've even texted across the dinner table, after the meal was served of course.  As we used to say in the 70's, "get with the program".  TTFN

Sandy, sometimes I feel as if modern technology is taking more away from us than it's giving. A lot more can be accomplished with a simple phone call, which also allows for much better communication!

Hi Sandy, My nephew was sending pictures of  his presents and texting his friend(s)? at Christmas ---it's a new day- but I prefer the telephone and the sound of a human voice.  I email important information so that I have a record, but would rather talk to people any day of the week.

Sandy ~ I guess that means we are getting older and the times are changing.  It is the norm with the kids today.  I we have to learn how to deal with it. I prefer talking on the phone.

Sandy,

I do like to text such as pictures and things so that people can feel that they are part of something if they are not there or make them (my sons) jealous when I am eating something delicious! Or text a phone number to someone when they are driving and cannot jot it down. Other than that I prefer phone conversations as well.

Hello Sandy, great post.  I hate texting but as you said, it is overwhelmingly going in that direction!

Hi Bill, I like texting in certain situations. But, I prefer picking up the phone talking to someone on the other end of the phone.  I like to hear the emotion in a person's voice.

Ron & Alexandra, I think some are reverting back to the old human touch.  I've seen it in certain instances, too.

Hey Kevin, Texting at the dinner table??? LOL - Ugh - the thought of that makes my stomach turn.  I took my girls out shopping the other day and my oldest daughter was walking through the aisles of the store texting.  I had to ask her how she could find anything when she was looking at her phone.  Too much texting for those teenagers.

Hi Doug, I also think that a phone call can provide better communication.

I know that texting is the wave of the future, and it's here to stay, but there is a time and a place for everything.
