It appears that the geography of the Ultra-Rich remains highly concentrated and Florida landed as one of the top five states where they reside.
According to a recent study by Wealth-X, the wealth research firm, more than half of all of the people in the United States with $30 million in investible assets live in five states; California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Illinois. "There are pockets of wealth in states that most people wouldn't normally think of", according to Mattew Miller, chief of research at Wealth-X, such as Alaska, Delaware, North Dakota, and Maine, who have at least 100 people worth $30 milion or more.
Florida boasts 3,526 of the 54,697 total ultra-wealthy residents, and about a third live in California and New York alone according to the report. California leading with 9,872; New York 7,327; Texas 5,283, and Illinois 2,446 respectively.
The Wall Street Journal further explained in The Wealth Report titled, "Where do all the Ultra-Rich Live?" that prosperity was only real for a few, and remained highly concentrated. It was further noted that having so many rich people hasn't prevented many of these top wealth states from sliding into their own budget crises.
