Wishing all of my friends and readers a happy new year from Northeast PA!
Many people start out the new year with a backwards negative comment, like: “Here’s hoping the new year is better than the last.” Well, probably it won’t be, if you have a perpetual negative outlook. I have always been a “half full” person. I look forward to each new year with a feeling of thankfulness for the blessings of the previous year.
I’m looking forward to great things in 2011. That said, 2010 was not a bad year. Not at all!
I closed out the year ranking #15 in the entire Pike Wayne MLS for closed transactions – my final sales on the MLS are $4,349,282, not including another $528,500 in sales that are not registered on the MLS.
My final numbers work out to be $4,877,782. I was shocked beyond belief when I tallied up my numbers – while so many others were whining about the “bad market,” I just kept working. I refuse to feed into negativity.
Were there bad experiences in 2010? Of course. There were offers to purchase that fell apart, clients who were disappointed, appraisals that caused angst, and some other behind the scenes issues that caused some feelings of stress. I remember one agent on the other side of a deal I was working on commented “Wow, how long have you been in this business? Because you are being remarkably calm about this.”
I said “It’s just another bump, and flipping out on the phone is not going to help the matter is it? It is what it is, we can only do what we can do and go from there. When things are out of our control, getting upset is not going to help anything and will just make things worse.” My mentor and boss, Judy Rodonski (I love that woman!) has instilled in me time and time again “Your job is to keep everyone calm and keep everything on an even keel.”
I had some challenging home and land sales in 2010. I sold homes in Masthope, The Hideout, Paupackan Lake Estates, and even two lakefront properties on Lake Wallenpaupack. Every single transaction had its own ups and downs. I am thankful for the business I had in 2010 and look forward to making more “vacation home dreams” come true in 2011.
God Bless & Have a WONDERFUL 2011 – I know I will!
